I have a court date this Thursday for speeding. According to the cop, I was going 56 in a 40. Bleh. I have a written letter from the vice principle/mayor of my town stating that I was comming home from school play practice when I was pulled over. Also, my mom knows people, and we're going to try and just get a fine, no points (would be 4 pts). Anyone have any advice, legal or otherwise? I CAN'T AFFORD THESE POINTS. Thanks in advance.

What the hell does your rehearsal have to do with speeding?
Posted by jiggyfresh on Jun. 04 2001,01:57
why the hell does it matter that you were comming from school play practice?
i got a 53 in a 35 and claimed i was dyslexic and got the sign confused. no points on my licence (would be 2) but had 6 hours of driver improvment classes
Posted by Sithiee on Jun. 04 2001,02:09
lol, they believed that?? ahaha....anyway, i have a court date pretty soon too. i can take some driver improvement class or something to get rid of the points though, so its all good. hahaha 63 in a 45.

"were you aware that you were going 63 in a 45?"
/me has shifty eyes
"uuhhh....no officer, i didnt realize that".

in reality, i was going as fast as i could so that i could make it to roys and back to school in time without being late. for those of you about to call me a reckless driver, there was no one around, and it was a straight, nearly flat road, and i didnt know there was a speed trap there, cause ive gone by 1000 times before, rarely speeding.

im gonna tell them (and this is kindof true) that i was going with the speed of traffic, and that all the other cars merged off onto 495. and i was going at the speed of traffic (about 55) and then all the other cars did merge off. but thats why i hit the gas .

And as far as keeping points off your license, do some research and find out if it works the same way where you are as it does here.

In Pennsylvania, if you overpay your fine, they send you a refund check. If you never cash that check, your financial transactions aren't complete, and they can't put points on your license.

And yes, I know that I have mentioned this before, but I think it does bear repeating.

If I go to court, do I have to pay the fine there, or can I still pay it later and overpay it.
Posted by Observer on Jun. 04 2001,16:36
I think it would be worth the effort to find that out.

haha wussies getting tickets for speedling like 10 mph over, then actually taking the trouble to go to court to not get points. be a man and pay the fine.

and sithiee, in case you are still complaining about insurance companies, thats why they charge men under 21 more.

Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Jun. 04 2001,18:39
not much advice for getting out of the fine. just remember not to get caught speeding again...notcie i say get "CAUGHT" not "DONT DO IT AGAIN"

[edit]that doesnt even begin to include my sister, whom i dub, "worst driver ever"

and ck, dont try and tell me youve never done something illegal in your car, cause thats just bs.[/edit]

Wussies? Its being somewhat cautious and not totally reckless.

What are you talking about? EVERYONE speeds. If I got in an accident, then i'd let that comment go, cause it would have some validity.

Well, the ticket itself is 90$..
BUT insurance hikes would be a MINIMUM of 100$ a year.. and thats if im LUCKY

gotcha, i forgot about that, since apprently i can have this dissapear from the record
Posted by PersonGuy on Jun. 05 2001,02:28
I've heard that if you pay them บ more than the ACTUAL fine with a check, they'll send you a check back for change. Then THROW THE CHECK AWAY! Supposedly, the transaction registers as never being complete and the points don't show-up.

Ive had my share of court dates here in VA. The trick is to take your car and have the speedo calibrated. most cars from the factory are 2-7 mph off. Thats usually enough to get you a faulty equipment fine instead of a speeding ticket. Like ษ instead of ์. And no points on your license.

It's funny, the Sarnia Police have a policy to not get into chases, there's too much of a risk or something. They'll go like a couple kilometers and just quit.
However, we now have an OPP station in the town that connects to us. Those fuckers will chase you down, drag you out of your car and beat the shit out of you! Bastards...

Another good excuse that I thought up one time (probably won't work though) is that you were just trying to keep up with traffic, but seeing the fact that traffic was indeed at least a few miles ahead of you, you better catch up damn fast.

Nah, probably wont work.

Posted by Rhydant on Jun. 06 2001,00:15
not that this has to do with speeding, but i got in an accident today!
well... sorta.
i was waiting for a couple of cars to get out of the way so i could park at a shopping center. then out of NOWHERE this idiot backs out from his space and nails the back of the my damn car. then he tries to blame it on ME!

Guy: what the hell!? you hit me!!!
Me: wtf?! YOU HIT ME, YOU IDIOT!
Guy: bullshit kid! look waht you did to my car! didnt you see that i was baking up?!
Me: didnt YOU see that i was at a complete fucking stop?! YOU BACKED INTO ME!

then he demands to see my liscens and insurance. (which i dont have. its a permit!)so i whip out the info and it turns out that i have Gieco (not gecko ) and he has some bottom-rate Survival shit. you know, the commercials you see on day-time TV.
god damnit. i hate people like that. luckly i got the names and phone numbers of some of the people that saw the accident. i better get some money for the fuckin repairs.
Fuck!

No major accidents, no major tickets.

Once I backed the Daytona into a bridge abudtment, @ 1.2mph, and cracked the bumper. They should really design those pillars to give a little.

Once I was pulled over and given a warning. I was polite and told him I was coming home from work and sort of zoned out a bit.

Other than that, I definitely deserve many tickets at this point. I take it as a blow to my manliness if somebody passes me, so it doesn't happen often. I have finger shaped imprints on my steering wheel from being behind slow drivers. And it's all compounded by the fact that for 6 months, the population of Tucson doubles as the old people come into town for winter.

Posted by Sithiee on Jun. 11 2001,16:24
heh, no...for a second i considered it, and then i realized i only have a 125 hp car. i would have no chance of evading the cop cause there was nearly no traffic.

Ok, I got a speeding ticket a while back, and I have to go to court for it next Friday. I was looking over the ticket and I noticed that the cop wrote that I got the ticket at a different place than I did. He said I got it where the road I live on joins the road I got the ticket at. Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, except the road I live on joins the said road at the very end. There is no more road after mine. Now, the ticket said I was going 48 in a 35, which I was, but it is not possible for me to be going 48 at the spot he said I was, because of the whole road ending thing. If I were to point this out to the judge in court, and bring a map to prove it, do you think they would still give me the ticket or would it be the cops fault and I would get off the ticket?

I think you might have a chance to get it thrown out. If the judge wont throw it out, try to get it to be a non-moving violation.. No points on your insurace!
