Forum: The Classroom Topic: Who's your favorite female vocalist? started by: miNus Posted by miNus on Oct. 05 2001,00:41
Mine's Shirley Manson from Garbage. She has a great voice, and she's pretty hot too.Next after her is probably either Poe or Dolores Mary O'Riordan Burton, from Cranberries. She can belt 'em out for sure. I dunno if you've ever seen her when she had longer blonde hair, but she looked really good then. Anyway, what about all of you guys/gals? I don't listen to female vocalists at all. Actually, thats not true, but I listen to next to none.. I listen to maybe 5-6 songs sung by women. One is Nena's 99 Luftballons.Thats all I can think of. SLATE Posted by sHuoReNviOLiN on Oct. 05 2001,01:58

Oh oh!!! And Diana Krall!
Posted by cr0bar on Oct. 05 2001,07:48
Your mama. Her shrieks hit this note when I'm drilling her. . .sends chills down my spine.Ha, seriously, Jewel can sing well even though I'm not a huge fan. My favorite female vocalist/songwriter has to be Kinnie Starr followed by Edie Brickell. Posted by askheaves on Oct. 05 2001,17:07

Tell me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Shirley Manson kind of remind you of < Jin? >This message has been edited by miNus on October 06, 2001 at 05:30 PM Posted by Dysorderia on Oct. 05 2001,19:55

That Jin Wicked chix0r is hot, yo!------------------ Bluntman & Chronic is the worst comic I ever read. Jay and Silent Bob are stupid characters. A couple of stoners who spout dumb-ass catch-phrases like a third rate 'Cheech and Chong' or 'Bill and Ted'. Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses. www.moviepoopshoot.com Posted by Rhydant on Oct. 05 2001,20:08

My favorite is Milla Jovovich. The Divine Comedy is one of my favorite CDs of all time. Another good singer is Tori Amos, and Dido's vocal style rulez.Though I have to say, the vast majority of my music is male singers. ------------------ Posted by incubus on Oct. 05 2001,21:50
Hmm:Tori Amos - chillingly talented Female voices are good. For example, random females in "N-Trance - Set you Free" and "Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky" make life good. Ok, now what about male vocalists? And you can't say Trent Reznor. Get some originality! I'd say Mark Chadwick from the Levellers. He rocks! ------------------ Posted by miNus on Oct. 05 2001,22:07
For male vocals, I'd have to say Aaron Lewis from Staind. He really does have a good voice.Mark McGrath gets the award for closest borderline good-annoying voice. Posted by Vigilante on Oct. 05 2001,22:11
Two more additions to the fems: Kylie Minogue, but only in the song 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' with Nick Cave. Also, the singer for K's Choice (dunno her name).
The most amazing male singer I've heard, though, is a fellow named Darik Velez. I saw him put on a few performances while visiting a friend at Williams College in MA (they were both students). Hope he makes it into the spotlight someday.

I'm not going to go into a huge flame war about Irish origins but I should, so I will just say this the light skin of the Irish comes from two sources the Norse (Vikings) and invading Celts of pre-roman Europe (Celts were not the aboriginal people of Ireland) and the vast majority of the Irish do not look like Conan O’Brien. Most Irish have lighter skin normal tone for people of European descent and dark hair and blue eyes the normal Irish person does not have red hair. The aboriginal people of Ireland according to historical accounts were short stocky and had dark hair. Thank you------------------ Posted by Blowgoats on Oct. 06 2001,21:07

The girl who sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow (well) but not Judie Garland. If I could access my computer, I'd tell you her name, but I'm too lazy to look it up.Dave Matthews owns. ------------------ quote: Posted by LiNeY on Oct. 11 2001,15:24
female singers: Diana Krall, Sarah McLachlan, Isabelle Boulay (she's from Québec and sings in French... amazing), Madonna. And Juliette Gréco (French singer)male singers: Jon Bon Jovi (really sends shivers down my spine), Bono, George Michael, Jonny Lang ------------------ Posted by Nikita on Oct. 11 2001,15:27

Liney, I wouldn't. There's a reason I keep my singing from other people. I'm in Vilseck. About an hour east of Nurnburg and about 2 hours north of Munchen depending on how fast you drive. Speaking of falsettos, there's always Barry Gibb Posted by whiskey@throttle on Oct. 16 2001,23:31

What is so amusing about the culture? (I admit it has its fun aspects... but which culture doesn't?) Btw, what are you doing in Germany? It feels pretty cool to know a detnetter is closer than 1000 km to here! ------------------ Posted by 1LT on Oct. 18 2001,17:43
Liney- I'm just another american. I agree that the area is nice. The culture is amusing, though. Whiskey- Check out Hated (a documentary on GG). I'll never get the images of him at different shows, being naked and attacking the audience. Hardcore "punks" scared of a man with a very small penis and nothing to lose. I have to repect the brutal honesty. Posted by 1LT on Oct. 19 2001,08:30
Liney- It's another case of an arrogant American. Me. I find it interesting to see their US obsession. In general, those that hate Americans do so for the wrong reasons and those who love us do so for the wrong reasons. (If you'd like my specific observations email me. I don't feel like being flamed for noticing cultural minutia.) I will state that the Germans I've met have been really nice. Including my landlady. I'm a Medical Platoon Leader. I'm also here to make wry observations, test drive their cars and photograph their history. Posted by LiNeY on Oct. 19 2001,13:30
I'm a German. But not a typical one. And yes, I happen to like the US. ------------------ Posted by ic0n0 on Oct. 19 2001,13:44
I know virtually nothing about my German ancestry NOTHING! I am not proud of that but my ancestors didn't keep a good record. The only German heritage that remains in me in my last name, Schultz, which is like the German smith in that there are so many people with the name. Now my mother’s maiden name is more unique Dannenfelser, can any one who speaks German please tell me what that means.------------------ |
