Ok, everyone is trying to come up with a better idea than a cirtain number of posts that makes you a l33t hax0r. Well here's mine.

Next to every post have a little check box. If (only l33t hax0rs can do this) you think that the post is esspecially good, then you check the box (username and password required). Then once a lam0r has 33 "checks" they are upgraded to leet haxor status where they can give other lam0rs credits!

Did that make sence?

Slight problem with your solution. How do we start it? Do the people that are currently l33t hax0rs vote on who moves up in status? In which case there are a few people that have this that got it merely by posting useless drivel over and over again to move up. So that leaves us starting over again, which obviously won't work. If no one is a l33t hax0r who votes on who gets to move up?

I think we're just making a big deal out of nothing. Yes, it sucks when people have the same status as you when they obviously don't deserve it. Then again usually their posts reveal that.

Ok, I think that cr0 should pick the first set of l33ters... mabey 20 or so and 5 or so uberl33ters. And I guess uberl33ters would have to to "check" the l33ters to upgrade them. It isn't that complicated...

Sure, the current system is fine, but it could be better...

What do you think cr0?

cr0bar didn't just code this forum himself, you know. While you can modify the UBB source, that sounds like a pretty big modifacation. If cr0 went out and got an Open Topic board he could set certain people to a different status as he wished; but that would be a waste of the current UBB license.

Personally I think the best solution would be to set the "Member" status to around 100 or so, so it's meaningful, and call it good.

These ideas are all good in theory, but I see nothing wrong with the way things are now that a moderator or two wouldn't cure. It hasn't gotten too bad here yet, but it might be about time for moderators.

Just your generic meaningless signature. Mix with 2 quarts water and stir till evenly coated.

It might be hard to mod the UBB code to do that. But if you can, it's a great idea. And maybe cr0 can rate all the 1337 haX0rz posts and give them über 1337 status or something at like 50.

I personally think this system is fine the way it is. Though a moderator would be a nice addition to the detnet forums.

All this status discussion is useless. Why do you want to have 'l33t hax0r' beside your name? If that makes you feel suprior or special, I think you should get a life.

The only reason I have 'l33t hax0r' next to my name is because I've posted over 30 some times, and I didn't constantly post to do that either.

I think that all your status indicates, is how much you visit, and if you can be considered a 'regular' of the detnet forums.

Just my 2 cents.

That, and I lack the expertise/motivation/time to modify UBB.

Yeah I agree with you Nigel..
seems kinda stupid everyone trying to be a l33t or whatever...personally I don't give a shit about it. I came on here to read and voice my opinion that little thing in the corner on my screen means very very little in my actual life.
anyway thats my .02

Since there is only about 20-25 or so people who regular post anything out of the 300 registered, why change it because of the few.
Though, if you do something stupid or lots of pointless posts - just reset the total posts to 0.

PersonGuys got an idea, but wouldn't a miny poll be better - let the forum decide who should be 1337. say Choose 2-3 a month
A moderator could be about time though?

I think some of you are missing the point of a message board. It is to come and post topics and have other people reply and give you their opinion on the topic you posted. Who cares if you are a member of a junior member or in this case a lam0r or l33t. It should not matter if it just said your screen name and you didnt have any sort of rating you would still come so who cares.

I like that voting idea!!!

Anyway, it does make a difference! When I first came to the Forum, I imeadiately took notice of ranks, and I don't value the oppinoins of lam0rs as much as l33t hax0rs. At the same time, when I was a lam0r I always strived to make good posts because I knew my posts weren't as valuable as the veterans!

Here's a system I just thought of. Instead of trying to modify the system to make it more difficult to become a l33t hax0r, we create a thread where we can post the names of our most hated lam0rs. Each person only gets to vote for one lam0r per week, and only once for each lam0r. At the week's end, the lam0r with the most votes or with the best/most creative arguments bashing him/her gets their tally reduced to zero (perhaps it could be setup so that their stupid posts are deleted too?). cr0 gets final say naturally.

i dont think we should delete their posts, because then the threads might stop making sense, but other then that its a good idea
Posted by kuros- on Jun. 21 2000,10:39
Didn't i just suggest this The_Hiro, good lam0r thread though
Posted by The_Hiro on Jun. 21 2000,11:27
Kuros: Yeah. I guess you did suggest something similar (And here I thought I was being original). Well, credit given where credit's due.
Posted by PersonGuy on Jun. 21 2000,22:27
I agree! Can you do it Cr0?
