I must have been about 14...
Me, being the clever sod I was back then, spelled my first initial phoenetically, Kay, and then just to be different, added another y on the end, people saw it and thought it looked girly, so they started name-calling and stuff, but they were all callin me Kayy, and it stuck with me for all the years.
People prefer to call me by my real name though, read my sig. if you dont know what it is yet, but when I'm out on the town, Kevin just isnt a good name, so people call me Kayy when I'm out and about.
Also, deriven from that, my clan name on an ancient 1st Person online RPG was KaYYoS, my phoenetically spelled nick, with os on the end, which was also the phoenetic spelling of the team I played on, chaos, and hence, is the reason why my domain name, all my email addresses ever registered, my somewhat small company ideas, and so on, are all registered under Kayyos, < www.kayyos.co.uk >, kayyos@kayyos.co.uk, kayyos@kayyos.worldonline.co.uk, Kayyos-Vx WebDesigns, Kayyos computers, and so on.
It all fits nicely for me. Even though it started out as a playground joke on my expense.

Friends just shortened it one day and stuck ever since.
I needed a SW related nick for another BB, so i chose masher.
Actually, it was Masher 3263827, but that was a bit of a mouthful, so I dumped the numbers.

The units i had painted were the Space Wolves, the Bodygard of the head of the Wolves where called The Wolfguard. The name carried over to playing way to much BattleTech and just stuck.

My nick is shortened from "ameeba" (amoeba in english). I'm pretty sure all of you know the 1-celled-thingy-in-the-puddle. The ameeba is from my earliest years of Quake. I still play Q1-TF and I'm the only ameeba there so far...

But it was taken so I went with the next logical choice (heh) personguy. Then for a while it was Person Guy, and now it's PersonGuy.

i thought that orsen scott card took ansible from some earlier science fiction story, like the scientists in his book took it from that science fiction story as a good name in a slightly confusing bit of plot... or maybe i don't remember right, i dunno

It began back in the days of Might and Magic (back when it didn't suck... 1 - xeen). I was creating my characters when I go to the sorcerer and I needed a name. So looking around at the things around me I remember taking Scrup from a game named Scruples it was just laying around. Then I added laniS sounds kinda elfish, magical so...
Then when I got into BBSes and shit I started using that name, haven't seen anyone with it yet. When I started using IRC damn nick was too long so it was shortened to Scrup.

actually i really didnt mean you when i made my little rant about the neo thing. apparently i shouldnt have said any of that because it seems to have pissed quite a few people off. oh well. neotope, whether you care or not, i like your nick, and i didnt mean yours when i said that shit. there are several people who regularly visit this site that i didnt lump into that group of unorigional peoples. i meant half of the kids i see on IRC or anywhere else. i hope this clears some of this mess up, though im beginning to doubt that it will. but anyways, sorry for the misunderstanding, neotope, and nero. (i know one of you is still going to find a way to turn this around and yell at me for this, i just know it)

That's quite alright. I used the handle Shogun for a long time. I was tired of other people having it on IRC and having my AIM screen name be Shogun followed by something lame. So I decided that I would make up my own word. I thought isotope was cool but that would be common I figured so I decided to chop of the beginning and add another word. Neo was really the only word that sounded cool and that ended with a "o".

Hmm I assume you are referring to my nick. But the neo in my nick has nothing to do with the movie the matrix. I made up the word neotope. I got the word by taking off the iso from isotope and I added neo. Its kinda an oxymoron because an isotope is multiple forms on something and neo means one so it would be like one form.

I was playing with words in 4th grade, cyber sounded fun and i had just seen Tron, so duh. It was some time later that someone informed me that Cybertron happens to be the Transformers' planet of origin.
I got pissed at there ALWAYS being a "cybertron", so i used cybrtron for a while, then the THE part came in, as an inside joke about a non-existant HL-CS clan (Ten Hovering Elephants if you must know). Anyway, i also got the LOTR and Ender's Game refs. Has anyone read the rest of OSC's work> the rest of the Ender series? i have heard that they sucked, but im too busy trying to get through the Elegant Universe to read 'em...

i learned about kuru in a class i took once in college where i had to study medical terms and diseases. the whole idea of cannibalism stuck in my mind, most specifically that there were some diseases that people could only get by eating the undercooked brains of other people.

I needed a nick for slashdot about 3 months ago, but my normal nick was taken: Silly Putty.
I've had SP since BBS's in high school (6 years?) and I have used it in QuakeII online. Nothing is wierder than meeting up with the only other Silly Putty out there in a match. We stopped fighting and started bitching over the name. Pretty cool.
askheaves came to me in a flash of ignorance, and it just seemed easier to keep it than to maintain 2 nicks.
