Note - don't read on if you don't like talk about throwing up...I get these super migranes, most the time in the morning. I've been getting them ever since third grade, and they kinna flux every so often (every once in a while I'll have one a week, then it'll stretch out to once every 3-4 months). I've found that certain things bring them up (stuff in Pizza Hut tomato sauce, MRI's or something), and I know that I'll get a bunch when I'm really stressed out. Also, nothing works for them. I've tried 3-4 prescription drugs, all will ease the pain a little, but only for a couple times, and all the over the counter stuff is fine if I hurt my arm or something, but from the shoulders up no effect. If you don't exactly understand the intensity of these migranes, I'll try and put it in perspective. I throw up because of them. I have to stop all physical movement, with the exception of moving my legs or arms to ensure they're still there (lose of feeling, sometimes). I never asked a doctor about it (and don't plan to. I hate doctors), but I figure it's because the chemical inbalance created by the migrane just fucks up everything and causes the muscles in my stomach to just go awall. Most the time I'll have them from about 3-4am, so there isn't a lot in my stomach usually to throw up, so that nice warm, yellow glob better known as stomach acid comes up (I like to refer to it as "AHHHH!! MY FUCKING THROAT!!!! HOLY SHIT!!"). Yes, I just had one today. If you have any form of intelegence higher then a hollowed out cucumber, I figure you can guess these things kill my whole day, and some of the following day. After I finish spewing for a while, I go to sleep for a few hours and when I wake up I'm still damned grogy (spelling?). If anyone, even syf0n, has a serious suggestion for medication to help, or any ideas of stuff that could be happening to cause the migrane, or during it, I would greatly appreciate it. ------------------ Posted by Non on Jun. 01 2001,20:21
Sounds Like a pinched nerver. If you don't like doctors you should try acupuncture, I am sure you can find many unlicensed ppl who would glad to help. ------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Jun. 01 2001,20:36
i get seriously bad migraines too though mine are more stress related. staying up too late for long periods of time working too hard in the heat. that kind of thing puts me out for 8 hours (exactly 8 hours in fact you can time it) i get these really bad stomach cramps and its the worst pain ever even painkillers have started to not work now. i find that if you can tale something like lemsip max strentgh to knock you out for a while and then start to try and stay active but not overly active it tends to wear off.i try to have a few days away from any form of tv screen or pc screen. and go out and get a lot of fresh air to keep them away if i feel one coming on. Have you ever had a CT scan? I know you said you don't like doctors, but having had these Headaches since you were three years old one would assume your parents took you to the doctor. Well, what I was thinking is that it might be a brain tumor, seriously. You should get it checked.------------------ Posted by Spydir on Jun. 02 2001,01:44
Since third grade, not 3. And I had one in third grade, but never again until I was sixth. It's not that i don't go to doctors, I do, its just I don't like them, or trust them. Most the time, when it's not a early morning migrane, I can tell one's coming. My eyes get all fuzzy, like when you look in a light, and things seem to move a little slower. I know if I can tell one's coming, and I just sit down in a comfortable chair, get everything that makes noise, light, whatever off or away from me, I can do this breathing technique a friend taught me and it'll go away (I dunno if the breathing technique has a whole lot to do with it, but I think it helps psychologically). It's when I wake up at 4:15am with this killer pain my head and about half an hour later I'm puking yellow stuff or air that's killing me... I don't like the idea of that acupuncture crap. Just something about some old dude sticking hundreds of needles in me is very unnerving. Also, I don't really see how a pinched nerve has anything to do with all that... and oddly enough, l33t, that's not the first time I've heard that ------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Jun. 02 2001,19:27
well unless you've got a case of lifelong meningitis i aint got a clue what else it could be

I've got to say, Spydir, I've been down that road. I used to be (and still would be if I didn't avoid the source) knocked completely out by migranes. And yes - I will tell you how I got rid of them.Medication isn't going to do SHIT for a migrane. And don't even bother with those "anti-migrane" medications - they will fuck up your bloodstream like nothing else. The cause of migranes is tightened blood vessels in your brain. As soon as you feel a migrane coming on but BEFORE you get the aura (I'll explain later), you need a muscle relaxant (no, beer is not good) and a blood thinner. Aspirin will do for a blood thinner, and then take the hottest shower you can stand to loosen your head. As far as those symptoms - the violent puking, numbness, not wanting to move -totally normal as far as migranes go. Let me guess - you also have an aversion to loud noises and bright lights when you have a migrane? Probably. The "fuzziness" and "world slowing down" is called "aura" - and it's a damn good indicator of a migrane. The worse the aura, the worse the oncoming migrane. That's all normal for a migrane. As for how I got rid of them - I eliminated the cause. What caused it in me? Allergies - specifically pig (any part) and wheat bran. One time someone fed me a hot dog saying "oh sure, it's all-beef". It was all-pork; and I was essentially DEAD for the next week. It sounds like there might be something in the Pizza Hut sauce that's setting you off. Go get tested for allergies. And not one of those "scratch tests" or shit like that - go visit a naturopath. No, they don't stick needles or any fruity shit in you - they use some sorta of magnets and a computer to gauge your magnetic field. (I don't know how it works, but it does.) Go there and get tested for EVERYTHING. You will be EXTREMELY happy you did. Anyways - good luck with finding a naturopath to check for allergies, and try to stay away from the Pizza Hut. Ummm... Lemme get this strait. You trust a "naturopath" but you DON'T trust a doctor? WTF!?! Edit: If you're talking about some shit HMO doctor, I understand... But really, talk to a doctor that actually specializes in migranes, neuropathy(sp?), etc... I've been to Duke Uni. Medical hospital's Neurologial department, and they gave me this thing that "slows the heartrate" or some shit. I took it for a week and half, and then I had the worst migrane I've ever experienced, todate.------------------ Posted by nobody on Jun. 03 2001,20:12
Have you seen a specialist about this problem? Find a doctor who specializes in migraine treatment and see if there are options you haven't tried. As mentioned before a CT scan would be a very good idea. Also, have you ever tried Excedrin Migraine? I've heard it recommended by people I know as the only thing that helps them when they get migraines. Finally, < this information > from WebMD might be helpful. Posted by Spydir on Jun. 03 2001,21:34
as I said, I've seen a neurologist. I don't think you can get a lot more specialist then that (these are the people that study the nervous system and the brain directly). I dunno about the CT scan (is that a "cat" scan? I've only heard the term, never read it... not much for medical journals), but for them to actually find anything, a migrane would have to be going on. I'm gonna let people spark up a damned hurl fest just to find out they can't figure out what's going wrong. For the past 5 or 6 times something's wrong with me, they can't figure out what's wrong, and the last time they had to stick a fucking tube up my dick. I don't need that BS again. Also, like I said, I've tried everything over the counter. It worked twice, then nothing. Anyways, the migranes are in the early morning most the time, to late to figure out one's coming and I need to take something to stop it. ------------------ Posted by ASCIIMan on Jun. 04 2001,03:51
Seriously, most neurologists DON'T specialize in migranes. You need a migrane/headache specialist, usually found in a Migrane/Headache tretment center. I drive by one every day (although its in TX, so it probably isn't much use to you).A quick search on google turned up migranes.org . Go there. Call (703) 739-9384 and ask them where you can find a good migrane specialist in your area. Seriously. I don't know how long it's been since you last saw someone about your migranes, but IIRC there's at least 5 or so new migrane medications that have come out in the last few years. BTW, Excedrin Migrane == Excedrin Extra Strength. Look at the active ingredients - the only difference is the label and (sometimes) the price. Both are simple pain killers and usually will do little, if anything for migranes when compared to prescription medications. You can't get REAL migrane medications OTC, its all just been re-labeled. |
