Hey, let's all head over to < www.iqtest.com > and get our head tested..

This could be a bit like the "i'll show you mine, if you show me yours" thread, only with brain.

I'll start. 159.

Eng_man, you don't need to give them your email address to get the result. I didn't.

Even though I'm not the brightest one here (149), I suspect that test was a tad too easy. They probably designed it with the intent of making you buy their stuff (that old salesman's trick of pumping your ego up to put you in the mood to buy the product). Or maybe I'm just too dumb to see the validity of the test. I dunno.
Posted by The_Hiro on Jun. 16 2000,13:24
Okay, I went back and answered every question incorrectly that I could. Ended up with a score of 53. I think the test is probably invalid.
Posted by Hellraiser on Jun. 16 2000,15:11
Not necessarily. All the IQ tests I've ever taken have ranged between 155 and 170, so this falls right in place with them. I had two professionally administered tests, and have taken 4 or 5 online tests. If a person really had no clue at all about what they were answering, they might get them all wrong and still have an IQ of 75 which is rather retarded, but 53 is about the level of a horse or a dog, who no doubt wouldn't have even been able to take the test.

The formulas they use to rate your IQ are not the same as the simple percentage or bell curve that is used to grade an essay, it incorporates things like how long it took you to take the test, how many questions you got right, and which questions you got right, allowing for age and knowledge of the test taker as well. I'm not saying it is the most accurate measurement, but it could be reasonably close.

I feel that question on the dimes and stuff was a bit off for british people.. I don't know all the US money terminology

Also, i was raised using mettric units.. Shouldn't the question on imperial measurements have been metric for me? (i believe you americans use imperial more than we do..)

IQ tests are all phoney anyway, the people who write them design them in such a way that you can only answer the questions right in one way, their way.

I took one online at soe site or other that was government approved (or so it said) and one of the questions involved shapes and their positions, and asked which two were exact opposites. The way they thought, there was one answer, and it was there. The way I think (dont even go into it, it'd be like Lord of the Rings or Encyclopedia Britannica by the time I explained it) showed different, there was no answer, I sent them an email and explained my methodology for working it out (which was much better than theirs (or so all my friends and the people I told it to said)) and they said something along the lines of "oh.. uhmm.. we never thought of it that way.. your way is wrong.. because your way isnt our way..".

Just goes to show, there is more than one way of thinking, and even someone who gets an IQ of 53 on a government approved test can be a genius too, all they have to do is write their own IQ test, and watch all the scientists and people that dont think like them get the IQ of 53, while all the other people who do think like them get scores upwards of 160.

well, i read somewhere that 100-120 is average and then up to 140 is very bright and then up to 160 is damn smart, and up to 180 is genius. i got 157, so i think that means i smart. but then again, every one else on this board got pretty much the same score, so were all fucking smart.

heheheh, how about that?

I have this feeling that some of us are lying about our test scores...j/k.
I remember when I was a kid and there were special class for the smarter kids...it always made me feel stupid to not be in classes with those kids...and I do test well now but I didn't then -go figure.
This is what I think. Testing for IQ is wrong because it gives you and "us" and "them" perspective. Why can't we all just get along.
LOL

Average in the US is something like 106, 102 world wide. Supposedly when the test was first started, an average IQ would be 100, (I guesswith 200 being the upper limit, and 0 being dead). The highest IQ scores ever achieved are upwards of 250. While each test is different, taking several and averageing them will give a fairly accurate representation of how you score next to each other.

One thing that most IQ tests don't take into account is social intelligence, some people are very social people and work well with others while being complete failures at verbal mathematical or spatial aspects of intelligence. And being able to reason a problem on paper is much easier than having to make a life decision, so I think IQ tests should measure how a person deals with a life situation and being with people before passing judgement.

What I do is remember that it is just a test, and not something to live my life by. I've done my share of stupid things despite being rather bright compared to most of the people I know, and I am still somewhat of a social misfit, so others may have one up on me even though I can beat them every time at math, english or spatial reasoning, and know more than they do about almost every scientific subject.

The real test of intelligence is knowing how to excell at what you put your hand or your mind to. Einstien and Beethoven were both geniuses in their own rights, though each were failures in some ways as well. Diversity is one of the few great things about sexual reproduction instead of asexual reproduction (aside from orgasms). At least we aren't all clones of the first human.

Well Ive been tested at like a 163 but I don't believe in IQ tests anyway...but if you are looking for a really good site for tests try < www.brain.com >
thats a good one too
I think intelligence is learned...the more you know the more intelligent you are. Plus the types of intelligence varies from person to person- someone could be more spatial or math oriented whereas someone like me is more verbal oriented...y'know?

Most IQ tests are biased to different people anyway - mathematical, abstraction etc..

It is very hard to find a fair test for all people. The Brit Army one, I've taken said 158 but iqtest.com gave me a paltry 130

Doh Chrissy, beat me to the point

151, not to shabby it says that "150 - Less than 1/2 of 1\% of all IQ test takers achieve this score or higher." guess all the smrt ppl come here!

Damn, the highest it will give you on that IQ test is 170, I tried all the combinations. So it's definitely skewed. By the way, my previous score was my first effort, so it's not like I practiced the test then took it, that would be cheating Well it's just a stupid test, so who the fuck cares? I don't.

ScruplaniS, you are incorrect. I am even dumber than thou! No, wait... I am THE dumbest of this thread. A couple of years backwards in the IQtest.com takes me to a total score of ~120. And that's WITH the aditional score, because english is not my mother language (cr0bar will propably destroy my account from detonate.net, when he sees this...).

I got a 154 on that IQ test linked at the beginning of the thread.. but i know it's not really that high.

Supposedly you IQ doesn't change over your life (unless you sniff paint thinner or perform DIY brain surgery or something..)

when i was in elementary school my IQ was just enough to get into GATE (which means it was like 130-135) tested by the real dudes.

so i know for a fact that it hasn't gone up 20 points since then. that test is pretty whack. it's all good though, just take your iqtest.com score and remove 20 points!
