Forum: The Classroom Topic: bleaching/coloring hair started by: syn Posted by syn on May 31 2001,00:58
So I am moving out from parents house in the next few days, and I had this bet with another person that if I bleach my hair, he will shave his head so that it's shiny. Apparently he thinks I will never ever do it. I definitely want to do something crazy/stupid when I move out, so I guess with the stupid bet I am seriously thinking of bleaching my hair. Of course, I have not a slightest clue on how to do this. Can someone clue me into the procedure? Is it better to go to a hairdresser than to do it myself? Also, how much should it cost to do by myself and at a specialist?I have pretty soft, light hair, if that matters.

If you just want to take the color out of your hair, go to a beauty supply store, and find a product called Super Blue. It's what old ladies use to take the color out of their hair before they put the blue/purple coloring in it. I have very dark brown hair, and it made me a platinum blonde. If you want temporary color, try punky color brand dyes. They last a few weeks. Be warned, the color won't be as dark as it looks in the bottle. As far as colors go, I've had natural, blonde, wine red and green. It was fun for a while, but now I'm in corporate america. They don't seem to car for those things. if your'e going to bleach, i reccommend getting it done by a pro.otherwise, you should be able to get blonde dye at a beauty supply store that you can do at home. the reason i leave bleach to the pros is that it's easy to damage hair with the chemicals that are in the bleach, especially if you leave it on for too long. it's also really easy to mess up the carpet if you drip any. ------------------ Posted by LiNeY on May 31 2001,20:53
if you can afford it, leave it to a pro. I have seen a lot of people who dyed their hair themselves and it went wrong, especially when bleaching it. That's one of the things about bleaching - you must expect that your hair won't have its natural colour even after the bleach is out again. With a lot of people, it leaves their hair darker than before the dyeing thing (a friend of mine used to be blond - he dyed his hair - now it is kinda brownish though the color has been out of it for 2 years). And in any case, bleaching will affect your hair structure, you'll have to care a lot more for it because otherwise it will be totally dry and "breaking" (no idea how you call that). Ahh, I see....So what extra things would I need to do to care for bleached hair? As for permanent hair color change, does that happen often? What do pro's charge for a bleachn' job? ------------------ I am the topic starter, twister topic starter! Posted by syn on Jun. 01 2001,22:38
