wow what an intresting post. might want to say more, like why its kewl, why its more kewl than others and, for future reference, its l33t, not kewl!Anyway, IMHO, ff7 is one of the best, but not neccissarily the best. Games like UT and Bust A Groove are good, but not the best. THE BEST GAME EVER is jezzball, flat out. ------------------

hahah jezzball!.. this dude at my work showed that to me 4 months ago, and we wasted a few work hours being unproductive to say the least.

FF6 was far superior to 7. while 7 did look much better, I think 6 had more of an enjoyment factor. That and it didn't have yuffie, which is a plus in any video game.The new vampire game is also pretty cool. or is that 1337. nah. it's better than 1337. it's 1338. leeb? go figure. Anyone who's ever gotten over 150,000 in Tetris knows that its the coolest game ever. Other games that come close to getting that title are Pinball (Gotta love getting 50 million points) and I can't think of any others. Actually, my favorite game so far is Starwars Racer, but I don't think it's the coolest game, I just like it the most. I think before getting into a debate about what games are the best you have to confine it to different genres because each is geared towards a different audience and as such is a bit like comparing apples with oranges in terms of fairness to the games themselves. Then there are some games that downright suck as well.

I have never tried a FF game, and probably never will. But to each his own, I guess.I really can't pick a "best" video game; I mean how can you compare Wolf3D with Duke3D with Half Life? All I know is some games I will probably remember playing for many hours at a time, these will remain classic in my eyes. ------------------

well, ill try not to be biased here, but here be a quick run down of some of the best games:PlayStation: Metal Gear Solid pretty much tops out, followed by GT, Tekken 3, and the Final Fantasies. Saturn/Dreamcast: im not sure on this one. Panzer Dragoon SAGA or Shining Force 3. The DC, Soul Calibur and Sonic. N64: Dont get me started on this bundle of crap. but Golden Eye/Maro Cart would do. Hand Helds: OK, im NOT going to say Pokemon. So Tetris. PC: oooooh, another toughie. Myst was the best selling game of all time, so thats up there along with Quake, UT, HL, War/Star Craft, and Homeworld (heheh, i love that game) thats about it... i know there are many more great games, but my hands hurt, no more typing! ------------------

the second level of duke3d the first time you played it. it had cops, strippers, pr0n, and some freaky ass chick in cocoon that mumbled "kill me."o.k. so it's not that great, but that doesn't make it any less memorable. ------------------

yeah, my 5 was incredibly lucky, i still dunno how that happened, i dont like beginner though, its over too fast, and when you set a record, it doesnt feel as cool with stuff like expert.

for an RPG, i think wild arms beats ff7, it actually has some humor that wasnt aimed towards children. for instance, kids running around the village talking about how they want to sneak into a bar and get drunk.------------------

One of my favorite games is Half Life. I still play it a lot (with the Counterstrike mod). I heard a few months back that the Counterstrike mod was so popular, it was considered the most played online game at that time (believe it or not). CS is a lot of fun though.Some of my other favorite games of all time include X-COM, Out of this World, the SimCity series, Warcraft and Starcraft, the EASPORTS NHL hockey series, the Fallout series, the list goes on and on and on...

First off, though i havent played it yet, Diablo2 ( comming out the 30 of this month unless it is pushed back again) will beat out all of the games listed. but since it isnt out yet, i think that you cant choose a best game because each has its own strengths. but im all about megaman and minesweeper. heh.

don't know if anyone else played it, but soldier of fortune was badass. just a little difficult. played ut and q3 for hours, but you have to go back a little for fp's, i.e. duke nukem 3d. started out on that game.for most addictive, i'd have to say either red alert:cc or total annihilation. i think between them they took up an entire year of my life. ground control is looking very nice too.

Yeah Fallout...I forgot about that. Those games totally rox0rs...haven't finished the second one...my computer couldn't handle the game, so after waiting 5 mins everytime you enter a new location, for 2 hours I gave up...

Hey, my friend just got a beta version of Diablo II. IT RULES! Although in the beta, you can only be the barbarian (two axes anyone?) you can hire rogues to be NPCs and you can kick a lot of ass! When this comes out, I'm changing my vote. (and no, I don't work for Blizzard, they just make good products)

I think SoM is one of my all time favorites as well, the music just made that game..the hit detection sucked sometimes (it was always in the monsters favor) but it was just an extra challenge. FF6 and 7 are my favs of that series. 8 was kind of dull and too complicated. i felt like i was taking a class trying to understand the system. i could've learnd it but it took too much time.

secret of mana sucked compared to the might of secret of mana 2 (seitzen densetsu 3). it was never released in english, but a full translation patch is availible for any rom. get them from < www.plasticman.org/emu/ > (they're snes).
cool features include choosing from 1 of 6 characters at the start each with a different storyline, and up to 2 cpu players helping. best action-rpg ever.--directhex ------------------

There are only 3 games I could paly over and over and never get sick of: Secret of Mana (1), Final Fantasy 3, Chrono Trigger all for SNES. I also love the metroid games.

The best classic games were definately Wolfenstein and Doom on the PC for action. For the Genesis there was Sonic 2 (all the other sonic games suck hard) and the Desert Strike games. For the SNES there was Super Star Wars (the entire 'super' series too) and Mario. The Saturn had.. hrmm, nothing much... nor does the DreamCast. They're all poof games that'll soon hide their faces. Playstation has Metal Gear Solid and Tony Hawk Skateboarding. Not to mention the thousands of other quality games... The N64 is not the layabout shit system everyone says it is. It's far superior to the playstation and the other consoles in it's league. Games like GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, Mario 64, Pod Racer, Banjo Kazooie, Rogue Squadron and Jet Force Gemini prove this. Yes, I'm a N64 zealot. P3rf3c+ D4rk 0wnz j00. For classic strategy it's gotta be Warcraft (both 1 & 2) and Command & Conquer. Don't any of you remember seeing the sun rise outside your window and thinking... 'ahhh shit'.

N64 rules? Sega sucks? nothing good on Saturn? Nothing good on Dreamcast? poof games. What a lamer. It is obvious you dont play them...I know I know, you'll say "but I do! I had this game and played that game lots, and Pod racer on N64 still kicks Crazy Taxi's ass." Did I say lamer? Soul Cal is far superior to any figher found on any other system(except maybe Tekken3). Played Chu Chu Rocket online or with 3 other friends? VOOT? Anybody? I would not expect a huge fan of Donkey Kong 64 to understand the complexity of VO. Come on smart guy..say something bright about the Nintendo Dolphin....or how Gameboy color 0wnz! or how Nin lost the FF liscense due to the cart format. or even how Nintendo scraped the deal with Sony a few years back to create the expansion for the Nintendo...the CD expansion, and bagged it at ther last moment. And then Sony took that tech and released the PS a year later. yep...system RULES! UT makes Perfect Dark look like a sack of crap.

whoo. i haven't been HERE in a while.ahem 1. ALWAYS use ZSNES. it's the only emu worth using. and make sure you have latest rom & translation patch. it works fine on my system. also, make sure you're using vesa2 graphics mode, with triple-buffering switched on. 2. super metroid = most atmospheric game ever. honest. metroid 2 was shite, 1 ditto. 3. i love ut, spend hours playing it, but perfect dark wh00ps it. this is an unbiased view from a guy with consoles and a pc. remember kiddies, graffix maketh not the game. 4. give me an email address, i'll send full version wolfenstein 3d to you 5. contra 3 on snes, m8. it rocks. or metal slug 1-x on neo-geo thank you and goodnight. --directhex ------------------

Okay, so UT makes Perfect Dark look like Wolf3d by comparison, but you have to take into account that the n64 is a platform, and is nowhere near as powerful as a desktop. Perfect Dark is the best platform shooter in my opinion. For PCs, UT followed closely by QIII. Chrono Trigger (the original on the snes, not the playstation re-release) is a great RPG game. For puzzles, Tetris (original) is the best puzzle game. Grand Theft Auto for PC is entertaining. (burning cops w/flamethrower, ahhh.... satisfying!) Starcraft is a great strategy, and Diablo II is another good RPG. (thank you blizzard) Centipede is the best old school arcade game, and the old Super Mario Bros. is great, if you can pull off the 99 lives trick. Gotta love the original Contra. Marvel V.S. Capcom gets my vote for fighter, and Caesar III for city builder. (I think it's better than SimCity 3k because you get to have armies and battles, but that's just me) South Park: Chef's Luv Shack is, hands down, the best gameshow game. (yes, better than millionare) Alpha Centuri (with Alien Crossfire, of course) is the best turn based strategy, but you have to read sci-fi books to appreciate some of the techno-babble. I can't think of any more genres, and this post is pretty long, so I'm stopping here, sorry.

Ever finish the original Metroid with one man? hehe, I have. I was addicted to the NES when I was in grade 5, 6, and 7. That's all I did. I finished Super mario bros and life force with one man as well. No up up down down left right left right A B tricks for me.
I was tested at the time for the stats at a local hospital where my sister was being tested. I scored in the 96th percentile for hand-eye coordination. Doubt I'd hit 80 now..Most challenging NES game: The real Super mario bros 2 (Lost levels) or possibly zelda 2. Best NES game SUPER DODGE BALL BABY. I wanted them to make a SNES version sooo bad.

Up up down down left right left right B A start was the Konami code. It only worked on Konami games. The SMB trick is on level 3-2, 1st quest. at the end, a koopa is walking down the stairs. You have to jump on it the right way so you keep going up and down and landing on it. It will rack up 1ups pretty fast.

somehow i think that if a movie of Street Fighter 2 was done, and done right mind you, it would do pretty well. just humer me on this and think about it, some good special affects on things like Ryu's ... shit id ont know what it was called but he shoots that blue shit an yells something like, "hryuken!". anyways, with the right actors, and a good director, i think it could kick some ass. anyone got any feelings on that?

Doesn't anyone find that video games just aren't that great anymore? I used to worship even the simplest game. I'd borrow a NES cart from my friend and couldn't wait to get it home to play it. Now I find the only games that really interest me are multiplayer (online) games, where I know other ppl are involved. And even then most games seem to get old fast. Maybe I'm growing up. uh-oh. No, that couldn't be it..
