Not if it was for the noble cause of communicating with a hot girlie who has no other means of chatting online.

As long as it had a good purpose. The "hot chick" example works well, as does the fun of observing Buromisan's vicious attacks.

Using AIM gives me a sense that I'm ripping off AOL.. Since its a free service and all..
Also, what did you use before AIM?
Posted by Rhydant on May 30 2001,02:16
i used/still use IRC a whole lot. and ICQ, sometimes. but it never logged me in. stupid thing.

ICQ is AOL now..
as is netscape..
and winamp (development paid for by the netscape corp which is now AOL)

ICQ = crap!

ICQ may be 0wned by AOL, but it's still a different service than AIM. Btw, when you said ICQ=crap, which version were you talking about?

any version except the very first ones, before they added the occupied, free for chat, and n/a modes. my icq number is only 6 digits w00t but i never use it anymore because AIM is faster and more convienant and more people use it. the only nice thing about icq is sending messages to people while they are offline.

Id rather have an ICQ number then an AOL name, Im suprised AOL didnt start charging people $$$ to use. Plus on both ICQ and AOLIM the ads are annoying. I edited my ICQ so the ads dont pop up anymore. At least you can customize ICQ more...

Winamp used to be shareware but then they struck a deal with netscape to allow winamp to be bundled with communicator, in exchange for funding. (that was when winamp went freeware).

So now that AOL owns netscape I suppose AOL have nullsoft in their pocket.

I'm not sure if AOL actually own nullsoft per se, but they do fund them.

Isn't sun microsystems entangled in this mess as well?

I seem to remember hearing word a while ago about a sort of Sun-AOL-Netscape coalition.. But that was before I heard of AOLs acquisition of netscape..

In what way is Sun now affiliated with AOL?

That is why i made my own mp3 player.. let me know if you want a copy.. its pretty stable

AOL has owned nullsoft for a very long time.

In fact, as I recall, someone from nullsoft wrote the first ver of Gnutella. AOL put its foot down on that right quick, but copies had already leaked out.

I use Sonique, myself. Not quite as functional, stable, or efficient as Winamp, but it's just cool.
