So, I started a live drum&bass band recently, and while things have been going really well (it's quite a novelty to play d&b entirely live) I quickly learned that it is very hard to compete with the large walls of sound system intensity djs use. Combined with the fact that I can't find an accomplished bass player (or any bass player that could play this style of music) I decided to take it upon myself.

So I'm buying < this >, and < this >, and most likely < this > as well. Just a side note: this combo could rumble the ass off an elephant while putting cracks in the street. Killer shit. (p.s. - pay no attention to the retail prices, as they are highly inflated)

Anyhow, whenever I prepare to spend a sizable (read: ridiculous) amount of money on something, I start scouring my house for shit I don't really need.

I found some stuff.

Chances are, I'll probably head over eBay, but then again, I am extremely lazy and impatient. And eBay requires a certain degree of both those virtues. So, I offer the savings directly to you! Besides, for some reason I trust you scamps more than the fiends on eBay.

  1. Black and White/Mechwarrior3.Okay, not only do I not have any time to play these games, I'm beginning to hate B&W anyway. Yeah, that's probably not the best sales tactic, but I just fucking loathe the entire RTS genre. It's still a cool game, though. The graphics and engine are AMAZING, and the creative premise behind the game is ubercool. I'm just not a big fan of micromanagement and "playing God." Still, as I'm sure many will tell you, this game is very addicting. As a matter of fact, I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't addicted for the past week since I bought it.

But now I'm rehabilitated, so buy the fucking game. Everything is in perfect shape (the cd case has a blemish in the corner, however) and I haven't even registered it. Comes in original box.

Oh, btw, Mechwarrior 3 has never been opened, but is chock full of multi and single player action. It came with Worms Armageddon (now that's a fun game) and has just been collecting dust on my floor.

I offer you the both of them for ษ. You can't beat it.

  2. Jaco Pastorius. I am selling the corpse of Jaco Pastorius.

    Seriously.

Okay...okay, it's just a 24-bit remastering if his 1976 debut recording. It has two unreleased bonus tracks, and features Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Randy&Mike Brecker, Dave Sanborn, Lenny White, and many more. Pat Methany, guitarist extraordinare, does the liner notes. The CD also includes a killer set of session photos.

Kuru, you may enjoy this if you haven't already: it has the song "Kuru" on it.

As you will note with the following item, I have two of these (my birthday luck), so I need to get rid of one.

It's yours for บ. In flawless condition.

More on the album < here >.

  3. GusGus vs. t-world. A very unique brand of ambient beats and ethereal techno. Peter Gaston of CDNOW:

"Biggi Thorarinsson and Herb Legowitz helped transform GusGus from a collective of artists, filmmakers, actors, and photographers into a musical conglomerate that busted out of Iceland with a mellow but upbeat brand of trip-hop...[it] contains tracks that seem to mimic Iceland's volcanic terrain as placid layers of beats and synthesized keys surround a hollow core."

Definitely cool, indeed. And track 1 ("Anthem") is a veritable classic. Listen to it < here >.

It's yours, in brand new/mint condition, for พ.

Shipping should only be ū.20 for each item when sent via US Priority.

p.s. - I am also willing to trade for other cds, games, drugs, etc.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

Oh well...

So... do you have any recordings of a live show? I'm curious what it sounds like. Also... if you've got some time, could you send me a list of the equiptment you use? I've been peicing together some live stuff, but I'm still a little short on advice.

Yeah, sorry again. I had originally posted, "SOLD!" But then I looked...

Anyhow...

For guitar, I play out of an Ampeg 4X10 with a 70s Sunn Model T (man, I love tubes). The Sunn has the bass, mids, and highs all turned to about 7, and the reverb at about 5. I used to play a Les Paul Studio, but now I play an SG with 490 humbuckers. The SG sounds so frickin' raw, it's amazing. Now I only use the Les if I break a string, etc.

For effects I use a Virtual Sound Route 66 Overdrive w/ Compression box, mixed in before a Crybay Variable Q wah (with the Q all the way up). It's amazing what you can really do with this simple setup. Then again, I'm not really one for heavy distortion or tons of guitar fx...I guess I just don't like anything getting taken away, so to speak. For the d&b stuff, I leave the trippy sounds and ambience up to a synth player or computer player (interesting how the cpu's become a legitimate instrument these days ). To be honest with you, I'd rather just have string players w/ a (somewhat) natural sound, but it seems the more electronic stuff is kind of mandatory for crowd pleasing purposes.

When I play bass, I usually keep it clean and warm, but I also like hooking up my wah and a Boss Bass Synth pedal for that 'sonic electrobass' sound. I think the trick to getting a good bass sound is to not limit yourself to one size speaker: go with 1-2 15" subs, 2-4 10" speakers, and a 4" tweeter/horn. You can get a nice, crystal clear tone a very high volumes this way, no matter where you are on the fretboard. Plus, it leaves alot of room for a good sized amp to do the trick, and it's great to actually feel those LFO-ish lines.

I think the most important thing amp-wise (guitar and bass) is to have enough watts to spare. If you have a 500 and you're running it through one cabinet with the knob up to 7, you're going to get a really shitty sound. You should never use more than 60\% of your power; personally, I don't like turning past 4 or 5. Combine this with a split cabinet (or one with stereo capability) and you can split up the available watts to get a very balanced sound.

I was playing an Epiphone Eb1 fretless (the violin one), but it was such a peice of dog shit I got rid of it. I don't know what I was supposed to expect for 跾 and the Epiphone seal of approval, but man, that bass BLEW WADS. The ad said it had a hollow body and a clef-hole.

When I got it, I found out it was a multi-peice semi-hollow with a painted on f-hole! I scampered back to the ad and saw that in the picture, the painted hole is craftily obstructed by another guitar. Fuckin' shysters.

Anyhow, I'm rambling. I have some brief clips of some of our stuff (and the d&b tracks I produce by myself). So, if you'd like, I'll send them to you/post them.

Apparently, someone has made off with GusGus and Jaco. There is $$ sitting here where I last left them.

Sorry.

Frosty - cool. check your email.

PG - Sorry for the lag, dude. I've been really busy. In the meantime, if you want, <
check this out >. It's only one of my older songs, from when I first got into producing tracks. Its outdated, but should give you an idea of what I'm up to these days. My new stuff is far more complex and...well, better.

I'll get back at ya soon.
