I got a 27, so that means I'm a better person than you.

I'm not real proud of that score, as I screwed up the verbal section royally, and I wouldn't make the same timing mistake twice.

The SATs and SAT-IIs are where I r0X0r3d.

Posted by kai on Apr. 28 2001,16:21
i too got a 26. not that it really matters. my friend got into college with an 18 so i'm not really worried.

I got a 26. I screwed up a little bit on the verbal section ( I got a 22) so my score could have been a higher.

I know someone who got a 34. I wanted to hit him with a 2X4.

The SAT is still around, but less schools are using it for some reason...our school lets you take both. It kinda depends on the region. If someone can find an equivalency chart for ACT to SAT scores, please, post it up here.
Posted by Sithiee on Apr. 28 2001,18:55
SAT is big over here, ive heard ACT is used more on west coast, and SAT more on east coast...anyway, i havent taken the ACT, and i dont know what i would get on it, but i got a 690 on verbal and 760 on math for sat, combined 1450. in sat 2, math 2c 710(i think, that or 700) 600 on physics (that was with me only knowing newtonion physics, and this covers E&M also), and a 580 on writing. i consider the 580 on writing lucky, and im sure after all you have read all my posts youll be amazed too.
Posted by askheaves on Apr. 28 2001,19:15
A 36 on the ACT is equivalent to a 1600 on the SAT. A 0 on the ACT is equivalent to a 400 on the SAT.
Posted by DjSokol on Apr. 28 2001,19:58
ACT is more of a mid-US test. 26 is shitty

I'm going to michigan with my 36! hehe

Can't be too bad, 21 is average :-P

i live in the midwest and all the state schools around the area (Il, MN, MI, WI, IO, IN,...) use it more than the sat. and 26 is in the 86\% percentile of everyone who took it so it is damn good.

My composite was a 28...I feel i could've done better, since i took the test two weeks after school had gotten out so i didn't do so hot on the math portion. I'd take it over again but the problem would just be worse since I didn't take a math class this year and don't remember jack. :-\

ACT? Who the fuck takes that shit?

When I graduated it was only the SAT and SATII. I don't think anyone (in the entire district) took the ACT.

Is this what everyone does these days?

Masher: The SAT and ACT are american standardized tests we have to take to get into some schools when taken in account with overall grade point avg in high school it will determine what schools you can get into.

well i got a B in physics A-level so you can all kiss my ass cos the only reason i didnt get an A was cos i fucked up my practical and got a D in that. but when in real life do you need to measure the harmonic motion of a pendulem in just an hour and then do some horrendous derivative of it.

Wait until you people have to get into grad school-
more fun standardized tests that will determine your future.
Im done with that (for now- in three years I get to take the NYS Bar exam which was failed by JFKjr three times I think- something to look forward to)
I cant even remember what I got on my SAT's and I know I didnt take the ACTs cause I thought one standardized test was enough. I got into the college I wanted to go to- and the law school I wanted so it really means nothing to me. They dont measure intelligence I hope you know---

wow. 32 is impressive, but hardley necessary for state.

i got a 29 on my ACT. eventhough i only got a 3 on the AP English test, that part of my ACT was enough to get me into the advanced English here at tech so i only had to take one class instead of 3.

Posted by Rhydant on Apr. 29 2001,13:00
you got a 3 in english compisition?
HAHAHAHA!
er... thats funny, right?

i suppose it's funny...only because i wasted a whole year in a really hard english class where the teacher hated me because i couldn't understand poetry. the other english classes at my highschool were a joke. you need a 4 or a 5 to get any credit at most colleges and universities, and my 3 didn't cut it. but i made up for it on the ACT english part. i think i just wasn't prepared because i usually do very well on the language parts of standardized test. anyway, i also took AP biology and i got a 4 on that one...
Posted by Nene on Apr. 29 2001,16:55
I took the act long ago. I remember getting 33 on reading and 27 science reasoning, 32 for spelling or whatever the category is...and i do remember the 30 composite. My math destroyed me. I got a 25 or something like that. Its been so long.

Anyone ever take the PPST? Its theoretically at an 8th grade level, but the moron education students around here seem to fail it left and right. Seriously. Don't EVER take your children to Vegas for their education.

I'm just wondering if it is really that hard of a test.

Rhydant, in Ontario, there are OACs (which stands for Ontario Academic Credit I think, it's basically grade 13 but the government is taking them away, the kids in grade 10 right now won't have them) and you need 6 of them (including english) to get into universty. To get into college, you don't need OACs, but it really helps.
I don't know what all goes down in the other provinces tho.

I kinda needed a 32 for state. My high school GPA sucked. I didn't do well my junior year. Don't ask, it just get me all angst-ridden and depressed.

On a more positive note, I think I didn't fuck up my calc final. *waves finger in the air*

they define whats average every time. like on sats, they make sure average is 1000, even if it means some peoples scores get lowered. that way they can say that the average person will always score 1000

IO?? Where's that? Iowa? Hah! That's IA, for you poor, uninformed non-Iowans.

I got a 32 on the ACTs, a 780 Verbal SAT and a 670 (I think...) Math. Which is strange, since I want to program... but how many of us remember geometry? Honestly... why don't they ask about derivatives and integrals? Something fresh in my mind...

ACT sounds like a redneck test. "American COllege Test". haw. I like the sound of "Scholastic Achievement Test" better.
Posted by ic0n0 on May 01 2001,11:02
The ACT is on a curve, which is the way it is supposed to because you are rated against the other people who took the test. If the ACT people were to set some arbitrary numbers and told people that they meant something like 30 is genius and 18 is loser it wouldn’t mean anything because the numbers wouldn’t be set by an average of all the scores. The way it works now is that the total scores are added up and divided by the number of people who took the test thus creating an average so you know where you fall in comparison to other people so collages know who is the most intelligent.

On another note I would like to see some scientific evidence that Americans are less intelligent than the rest of world, real evidence not an opinion >EVIDENSE< I am sick of people claming (based on ignorance and stereotypes) that Americans are stupid, I think that is bullshit; Americans are just as dumb as everyone else. The truth is MOST people are stupid regardless of nationality that is an opinion so let no one claim I am being hypocritical.

Standardized testing can kiss my ass.

  • ACT 24 first time, 26 second time
  • SAT 650 math, 640 verbal

this week i (being a high school senior) get to sleep in an extra 2 hours while the lower classes have to take state tests. Thank god for standardized testing.

I'm not saying americans are stupid. I'm saying americans are less educated. If you do not notice a difference, you are obviously the prior of the two.

I don't think Americans in general are stupid, but there's so much more ability for the stupid to survive in the US. We have ample food(comparatively with other, less developed countries), available jobs(again, comparatively), and plenty of room and cleanliness. We're just so much better off the Darwinian theory can't really come into play.

I do see the difference, but how is Accusing me of being stupid proving your point? Why do people go right to the lowest common denominator of class to prove their points?

I would like see to another nation with 283 million people (note: the U.S.A is the 3rd most populous nation on earth) do better in terms of education for the masses than the states. I agree that in general Americans aren’t as educated as they should be but you really can’t judge someone based on their education that isn’t fair.

Grades 1 though 12 are mediocre in terms of education in public schools, but American colleges are some of the best in the world. Why else would more than 5\% of all students attending collage in the U.S be foreign nationals. Because american University's are on the top of the list in terms of education.

Note: My spelling does suck. That is not because of a lack of education, rather it is because of a learning disability. I try to spell check all my writings but some times I forget to do that :P
