Yep, it was 60 years ago today that the Japanese invited us to vaporize them and take over their friend Germany. We won! w00tah America!

<Ed Anger>
Ah, World War II... nothin' like a GOOD WAR with a GOOD CAUSE. I say we invade Germany and Japan again, just in case losing ONCE wasn't enough for 'em! And we could nick some mighty nice cars & TV while we were at it!

gj DKB for clearing up common misconceptions. Many Americans don't know shit about past wars and know only lies they overhear. Not too many understand the real background of these events. If you are non-American, you would have a better idea of what I'm talking about.

The russians don't get enough credit in WW2 they by far had the most dead and the most to lose.

well they were fucked from the start really as they had no real chance against the german military but stalin through his own paranoia and denial to admit he couldnt win tried bluffing hitler at every turn trying to be his freind so he wouldnt get invaded even to the point of letting his own troops be killed on the borders to prevent a war. it was only the russian winter that prevented russia being totally fucked. but seeing as half of the russian army was dead by then and 90\% of stalins senior staff were executed out of more paranoia there wasnt much left afterwards to celebrate about. and believe what you want but theres still a hell of a lot of stalemate politics going on between russia/america/japan/uk and the like from the loss in WW2. i think you should be fucking thankfull you didnt have a country to come home to that was blown to shit at the end of all this. germanys main cities were levelelled as was most of london. poland was just fucked beyond all belief half of the population being killed via the nazi party and russia as i said was fucked as well and japan had two big craters that used to be nagasaki and hirosohma. so yeah we won woohoo

DKB, them's fightin' words!

Keep in mind that anyone who is fed B.S. by a relatively trusted source will believe it. A lot of German citizens didn't know jack about the fact that concentration camps were being run in their own back yards.

And it's America's fault that the war started? You're partially justifying people dying because of some trade sanctions that America imposed well within their territorial waters. No, you're wrong. The Japanese pulled an underhanded move because they weren't happy with the way things were going for them economically. Any country that can justify killing people to ensure a better business strategy deserves to lose all of the battles they fight -- and they did. I'm not saying we didn't get help in World War II, but beating the Japanese was our victory, not Britain's. You didn't help us against the Japanese. Your World War II was against Germany -- we made some big contributions to that as well, and all countries involved did a pretty good job. Except France. They suck at everything. Anyways....DKB, you're turning a post about victory over the Japanese into a shameless American-bashing seminar because you think we take all the credit for the way. The fact of the matter is that we peovided your country with a great number of troops and supplies to fight Germany. We deserve the credit we take...and if you've ever been fortunate enough to visit a World War II museum, then you might know that we don't claim to take all of it, as you'd have everyone here believe. If you're ever on vacation in the states, I wholeheartedly endorse a trip to the National D-Day museum, it may enlighten you a bit.

I hope that doesn't come off as a flame or a rant, I just really hate it when people blast America for a pro-war mentality that it doesn't really have. We have a big armed-forces dept, and we deploy a lot to "keep peace" or whatever...but really, we don't take incredible amonts of credit considering the resources we put out.

DKB... if you're ever over here, cruise into a bar and mention the RAF. People will know who they are, and they'll tell you that the RAF had / has some of the finest pilots this planet has ever seen. A lot of American sailors think the reason the US Navy kicks so much ass is because they are derived from the Royal Navy.

In other words, we are well aware that the Brits can fight! Go England!

Not to mention the fact that the Japanese were brutally raping Asia at the time...

Yes, I am to lazy to figure out the quote tag.

I feel like pointing out that the Japanesse DID deliver a declaration of war before they attacked. It was simply not delivered to most of the nation due to a "mess up" in the foreign affairs department.

erm no i think you'll find that WW2 started BEFORE pearl harbour thank you.

well seeing as japan would have quite literally ran out of all resources by december that year plus that it was assumed by the aericans that the japanese would respond in an american way an not treat the sanctions as an act of war they were forced into doing something about it i.e taking back what they had taken away from them

so what you expected a race known for its extreme hounour and pride to just give up to some country that took away its ability to exist.(oh and how did you happen to get possesion of north america btw when you moved their from europe? i'm sure the "indians" there were very grateful for the land you stole from them

i never said that i just said its your fault they got into the war through your poor intelligence.

well surprise surprise i though WW2 was a fight against eskimos not hitler and his nazi party well done for pointing that out to me.

i think i already pointed out that i said what i did because i dont agree with celebrating a day that brought america into the warnot because we didnt need americas help but because people feel a need to celebrate the fact that they killed lots of japanese in revenge for pearl harbour wqhich is well documented in being one of the worst intelligence bluders in history.

i've probably been to more war museums than you've jacked off to pr0n. the fact of the matter is that like it or loath it you only really got interested in the war (both of them)when it became a direct problem for you. you didnt take any of our intelligence advice seriuosly unless it was from YOUR sources and you didnt even share your intelligence between your own army/navy. mabye i'm not the one who should be looking at my attitudes towards how warfare is fought.

Not Europe. England. We were English when we got here. We killed off plenty of Indians while we were English. We'd still be English if King George III and Parliament hadn't tried to tax our every thought... which is why it's amusing to hear English people speaking as if the Yanks are oh-so-different. Maybe you should review < this >; it's a good read

Christ, I'm not even going to bother arguing with you. You're incompetent -- you can't even right in proper English! Additionally, your little toss at

"so what you expected a race known for its extreme hounour and pride to just give up to some country that took away its ability to exist.(oh and how did you happen to get possesion of north america btw when you moved their from europe? i'm sure the "indians" there were very grateful for the land you stole from them"

...wow. Not only do you indite Europeans, but your claiming the ones who left were just the worse half, and...oh christ, I give up. You're pulling things from random tangents -- stuff that doesn't even make sense! I commend you on your ability to win an argument through grammatical errors and knit-picking.

Are you fucking daft? The US gov't didn't want to back the invasion of China, so we halted trading of fuel and munitions to Japan. They got pissy and decided to blow shit up. And who said anything about celebration? The idea is to remember our past, so that the same mistakes arn't made in the future.
