I am not an Australian so I don’t know all the details, but from what I have been reading from /. And the like, that some in the Australian government are going totally reactionary trying to censor everything and banning “distasteful martial” Is this the case? Any Australians want to tell me what is going on? If that is the case, that is a really bad trend that a modern nation like Australia can make such a huge leap into the depths of fundamentalism. I’m not ripping on Australians here and this isn’t an American superiority topic so don’t start that.

dude, even us australians dont know what the fuck is going on. but really, they can pass whatever laws they want, and people will keep doing what the laws go against, cause really, who can monitor millions of people in the privacy of their own home?

it angers me, some of the shit they are proposing/passing, but it also doesn't affect me. i hope

You'd be surprised. Christ, I'll be the US Government is monitoring your homes too. You know when you turn off a TV, and there's a little dot in the middle? That's a US Gov camera reporting your movements.

It's true. They gave me an anal probe.

Industrial government lube is nowhere near as gentle as the high quality, private stuff.

""First they came for the jews and I did not speak out -
because I was not a jew.
Then they came for the communists and I did not speak out -
because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out -
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics and I didn't speak up --
because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me -
and there was no one left to speak out for me. "
Pastor Niemoeller (Victim of the Nazis)

Same thing with the government... they make censorship laws, and laws that allow them to look into your life... and while it doesn't affect you directly, nobody minds, but by the time it starts affecting you directly, you can't do anything...
