Damn, must be nice ... it's currently a nice, warm, 60F-ish over here. Rain. Should be snowing by now ...
Posted by Wiley on Nov. 29 2001,14:11
How can it be that CA has snow so early this year? I'm already missing the summer ...we gotta stop the ban on CFCs.
Anybody wanna go someplace warm with me?
/me empties another can of hairspray into the air.

Damn this weather, all we're getting is cold rain or hail...and this is Canada!

Yeah, I'm excited. Too bad it's sunny today - all of yesterday's snow probably melted.

Bear Mtn's site cracked me up...touting it's "4 inches" of snow. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!1 4 inches of downtown LA wet snow, a bunch of manmade crud, and about 17 billion riders hoggin up the park. I'll wait.

Seriously though, all of us SoCals fools should get together for a Mammoth run or something. Could be fun.

Posted by whiskey@throttle on Nov. 29 2001,18:31
Desert? Wait, are you talking about going up the 15? It's not that wierd...you still have to drive up the hill.

I'm actually a fan of Mt. High. The old managment used to suck ass though. Park's nice, got night skiing, not too bad when there's snow. We went tree skiing there last year. Go figure.

You going up this weekend, Rhy?

/me hums happily while I wax up my skis...

So THAT'S why it hasn't snowed yet.

This is really fucking wierd... here in Rhode Island (the biggest little state in the union!!!) it's forecast for a high of 68 tomorrow... DECEMBER FIRST!

What the fuck? I want to go snowboarding again, motherfuckers.

/me punches Wiley in the face and takes all his prissy hairspray.

Use Consort, cuz Mike Ditka don't do no girly hair spray. Da' bears!

I would have to drive up to flagstaff to find a slope. Fuck, snow lasts 10 seconds on the ground here on the coldest days. It'll be down in the 60's this weekend, at least. My midwestern blood has been thickening, and I almost die of heat exhaustion every day, even though I'm in shorts outside and it's less than 70. I think I've had to give up the cold life

I kept saying and saying that global warming would sneak up and kick us in the ass, but no one would listen. Well great, now death is upon us all!

No that just means year round summer.

Hooray for global warming!

/me sprays Consort into the air, akimbo style

fine, you wait. more space for me

thers also < this place >. and its in the middle of a fucking desert! literally. you go through miles of desert, a few chinese ranches (the hell?) and then all of a sudden, theres snow. weird shit.

Posted by WillyPete on Nov. 30 2001,10:14
Hell yeah.

Just waxed the boards again the other night.
I'm off Dec22 to Les Arcs, France for 2 weeks, then I have another 5 weeks of paid leave to spend on snow somewhere in the world. I might have a shot at repping with a bunch of 13yo Brit schoolkids in the US for 2 weeks in Feb to save money.

You are all fools. Quite obviously, cows are responsible for global warming.

You better check your facts again. Do some research and find out what the biproduct is if the interaction of CFCs and Ozone (O3) is.

Hint: Its a green house gas.

Assuming that CFCs have the ability to make it up into the high atmosphere (seeing as how they're huge fucking molecules, and that's the basis of the ozone/CFC debate), they're already so high up that when they interact with O3, any biproducts are high enough to float out into space pretty easily. In addition, the CFC concentrations generated on earth pales in comparison to direct generation of greenhouse gases... like, CO/CO2 out of your car or coal power plant.

CFCs are not a significant contributer to global warming. They are not a greenhouse gas, and their concentrations are too low to trap lower energy wavelengths. They are only (theoretically) responsible for ozone layer holes, which allow the more skin-unfriendly rays get to your exposed skin on the beach.

/me kicks MiNus in the balls and takes his prissy hairspray back.

Ozone ..no ozone ..I'm the one with the hairspray.

I want snow... we're just having rain here... and I want mountains and a slope and skis...

Is snowboarding very hard to learn? I've never tried it. I do okay at skiing though I'm out of practice due to the fact that I live in a place with neither mountains nor snow, and I'd love to snowboard. Any advice?

bah. i wish. ill prolly have to wait another 2 weeks or so. but thats not bad. i still need gloves, and my uncle is reluctant to let me borrow his kevlar-ice-climbing ones.
heh

From what I've heard, snowboarding is harder to learn than skiing, but easier to master, and vice versa. It took me about 4 days to properly learn how to make good heelside and toeside turns down the mountain, but the nice thing is that after 3 years, I'm still learning. If you really want to learn how to snowboard, I'd suggest getting a quality skateboard (not those plastic boards from k-mart) and just cruise around town for awhile. Or get one of < these >.
Posted by miNus on Nov. 30 2001,19:21
I went snowboarding once, and I started getting the hang of it at the end. If I had gone 2 or 3 more times I'm confident that I could have made it down the mountain fairly easily.

One thing though, after your first time snowboarding, YOUR ASS AND WRISTS WILL BE SORE. When you're skiing, there's pretty much an infinite number of ways you can fall... but in snowboarding, you either (for the most part) fall backwards onto your butt, or forwards and land on your hands.

My ass has never been so sore (no jokes kthxbye), nor have my wrists hurt so much (again, STFU ) as after snowboarding.

And, you might want to check out one of < these >.

A BMW skateboard... everybody needs one of these
