Forum: The Classroom Topic: Best scene in a movie started by: LazyGit Posted by LazyGit on Apr. 21 2001,10:01
This has been prompted by the favourite films thread but as I'm a forum nazi this is the _best_ scene thread not favourite because I only want to know about _one_ scene which you think is the best in any movie ever. So here goes:John Hurt gets indegestion in Alien. cheers Posted by kixzor2 on Apr. 21 2001,10:54
The scene in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, where Jen and Mu Lu Bai are fighting in the tree tops and flying all over the place. Posted by ic0n0 on Apr. 21 2001,11:20
From Schindler's list. When Schindler sees the body of a little girl with the red jacket in an otherwise black and white movie. That is awesome, not for the violence but for it’s significance of Schindler seeing what the Nazi’s are really doing. ------------------ This message has been edited by ic0n0 on April 22, 2001 at 06:24 AM Posted by Psychosomatic_plague on Apr. 21 2001,12:45
The fight scene between King Kong and Godzilla in the same movie. Amazing for the period the how cool that fight is.

The ringed plannet raising above the horizon in Pitch Black! Hey... it may be a bit pixalated on a theater size screen, but it's a damn perdy sight! ------------------ Posted by LiNeY on Apr. 21 2001,13:56
uh... best scene ever, and I can name just one? Well... there are several scenes from different movies that I love, but I think the scene that impressed me most of all I've scene is from "Matrix". When Neo and Trinity get into the building and start just firing and killing everyone around for about 5 minutes, that's incredible. What I liked about it is the way it's choreographed - looks almost like dancing, not like a fight. Awesome. But well, it's hard to decide on just one scene... difficult to pick the really best one. So if I may exceed the one-scene-limit: the final scene of "Dead Poets' Society". When the guys get up on their chairs and all... great. And with a really deep meaning, it kinda resumes all the movie has said. I love it. ------------------ Posted by Spydir Web on Apr. 21 2001,14:05
When big tittie kittie pulls out her tits and starts rubbing them in Big Money Hustla$.------------------ Posted by LazyGit on Apr. 21 2001,14:40
Veering slightly off my own topic and prompted by what LiNey said I think that one of the best action sequences ever commited to film is at the end of Leon. The music jsut fits it so well, when you see the SWAT team enter the apartment, it crescendoes as you see the fingers come down to deftly shut the door. Awesome. And then there's the fight between Ripley and the Queen in Aliens (that's not Queen Elizabeth II although I bet that would be fucking funny). Oh, and another fantastic scene: the rooftop in Shawshank Redemtion. "Do you trust your wife?" Posted by Rhydant on Apr. 21 2001,15:23

well, i like syf0ns little depiction, and i love the shawshank redemtion. but if any of you have ever seen the scent of a woman, i think that the ending scene in the school, where the colonel makes the speech, is one of the best scenes. or, in braveheart, if you really get into the movie, they make the ending just perfect. especially when his dead wife smiles at him right before he loses his head. This message has been edited by melk0r on April 22, 2001 at 02:52 PM Posted by solid on Apr. 21 2001,20:47
The matrix rooftop scene. I loved how he dodges the bullets. Not to mention thats a guinness record- 120 cameras used at once to make that scene. You guys should play the n64 game "conkers bad fur day" it has a part where you can immitate the matrix lobby scene, it's so amazing. You do the jump and everything goes slo-mo and the're all trying to shoot you and stuff.. very nice. It's actually challenging too. Posted by kuru on Apr. 21 2001,21:47
ok, maybe i'm showing my age here, but the best scene ever in any movie:'luke, i am your father.' who was ready for that? ------------------ Posted by CatKnight on Apr. 21 2001,21:50
I would have to say the last scene in gladiator, right before the final fight between maximus and comidus."Someone once told me, when death stares you in the face, all you can do is smile back" "I wonder, did this man smile at his death?" "You tell me, he was your father" and then Comidus rises on the elevator with his heavenly armor and that opera-type music is in the bg...oooh. edit ops quoted it wrong. its closer now This message has been edited by CatKnight on April 22, 2001 at 08:23 PM Posted by Cyrino on Apr. 21 2001,22:33

in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when King Aurthur goes up to the castle with the french guy. that was fuckin hillarious!"Uh... ill ask him, but i dont think he'll be very keen... hes already got one you see!" "Hes already got one?!" "Yes, its very nice. heh, i told him weve already got one!" "Well... can we come up there and see it?" "Of course not, you english swine!" "Your not English?" I have to say in Heat, the foiled bank robbery is one of the coolest gun-fight scenes I've ever seen.

Yah... it's hard to pic one! I gotta add the scene in American Movie right at the end when Uncle Bill's like, "Be happy. Make Happy. Everybody be happy," and then the music drops in. I LOVE that part! And how about where Arnold's eyes almost pop out of his head in Total Recal! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Referring back to kuru voting for the 'father scene' in Empire. I kind of get a bit pissed off that I saw that film so young so I didn't really care about what the hell was going on and I think I'd already seen ROTJ. I bet if I saw the series fresh now that scene would be pretty fucking amazing, despite Mark Hammil not being able to act.Likewise the chestburster scene in Alien, I'd already been told what was going to happen. I sometimes wish that I could just have all memories of the Alien series erased and see them for the first time now because I'm sure I would just explode because they all kick ass, still fill me with tension and suspense and exhiliration now, what would it be like seeing them for the first time? And in a cinema. Mind-blowing. Posted by Sithiee on Apr. 22 2001,18:20
quote: yeah, that was really funny....i think the rest of the band camp stories were just bullshit to lead up to that.... Posted by kornalldaway on Apr. 22 2001,18:37
in Gone in 60 Seconds a last getaway from the helicopter when he turns on the nitrosim American Pie when Jim is told that it feels like a warm apple pie and he asks "McDonalds or home made" the scene in hackers when zero cool says "the pool on the roof must have a leek" he just sounds so intelligent it's scary and when at the end of that same movie the buildings light up and it says "Haxed by Jeff K". oh wait, that's not the movie, but it still kicks ass ------------------ This message has been edited by kornalldaway on April 23, 2001 at 01:39 PM Posted by jiggyfresh on Apr. 23 2001,00:03

So many movies ... Matrix lobby scene for sheer coolness, and Event Horizon spiky room with hell-hole scene for creepiness. Then there's Seven ... but I won't go into that for now ... Posted by Observer on Apr. 23 2001,18:52
I think near the top of my list is that scene at the end of Twelve Monkeys with Bruce Willis' huge deja-vu thing in the airport. I'm trying not to give too much away, but it was quite amazing for me.
