I'm pretty sure I'm the most Home Theater savvy person on this forum, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway...I just got my Widescreen TV and I'm trying to integrate it with my current components. I don't want to buy a new DirecTV reciever, because I already have a bad-ass DTV reciever with Tivo. But all the set top boxes I'm seeing have DirecTV integrated... Grrrrrrrrrrrr.......... If I end up buying one of those, then how does my CURRENT DTV box fit into the scenario... Do I watch DTV through the HDTV box, and then simply use my other 踰 box as strickly a Tivo Box? Then I loose some of the cool features like pressing record on any program while I'm watching it!?!?! If I just use my Tivo Box then I don't get the 1080i 1200 lines of res for my veiwing pleasure... There hasta be a better way!!!! ------------------ Posted by ASCIIMan on Apr. 16 2001,16:54
Better way = buying new 迀 HiDefDirectTiVo when they decide to make one in a few years - after enough people exist that have HDTVs and DirectTV and want to buy such a device for 800 bucks.

It's a little confusing to me, though maybe it's the caffeine starting to wear off. Could you list all your current components and how they are connected so it's easier to make sense of it all? From what I was able to grasp from your post, there should be an easy solution.------------------ Posted by jim on Apr. 16 2001,16:58
Funny thing is... The boxes now are 迀... Tack at least another 趚 on for Tivo, or 跌 for Ultimate Tv....Ugh.... I think I'm just going to have to fucking replace EVERYTHING!!!! God Damn it! I still need: This shit is fucking getting expensive... Actually it's alreayd cost me 2 fortunes.... ------------------ Posted by Blaine on Apr. 16 2001,23:05
Do you get a lot of HDTV signals? I really don’t see any way to run the HDTV through your Tivo box. The only thing I can think of is to split the signal and use the Tivo for everything you watch in standard format and then switch to the HDTV box when you are watching a high definition signal. Of course this only works if you don’t get a lot of HDTV signals yet.BTW, nice choice on the tv. Mitsebishi kicks ass. Posted by jim on Apr. 17 2001,05:40
quote: I'll start with the simplest and work to the hardest. And I'll leave out the VCR and CD Player since it doesn't matter at this point. Source 1 Source 2 Reciever: Has all the above inputs, controls Audio/Video Switching, has Analog and S-Video outputs to the Old TV and Analog Audio/Video Outputs to the VCR (for recording from any source)
The DVD part is easy. Simply remove the Analog Video and S-Video Cable and run the YPrPb cables directly from the DVD player to Input 1 on the TV. If I buy a new DirecTV reciever, it will be equipped with YPrPb outputs that will send digital signals from 2 satellites and the HDTV signal from the Antenna and properly convert each signal to either 480i(p) or 1080i. But then I loose Tivo?!?! I just paid 軸 bucks for Tivo and I love it!!! If I just split the sat signal and run it to my Tivo box, and then leave it run the same way it was hooked up, then I can watch whatever Tivo records, but not pause Live TV.... If I use Tivo as my MAIN Sat Watching box, I get all the benefits of Tivo, but I loose my 1080i signal for watching TV... So unless there is a real solution to the problem, which is the point of this whole thread, it would seem I either have to watch a downgraded signal and reap the benefits of Tivo, or watch a True Digital Signal and loose the ability to pause live TV.... ??????????????????????????????????????? Hope that helped explain things....
