i know that people have already posted, looking for help, but i really need it. i am a super lam0r, and cant for the life of me figure out how to dodge the administrative limits at my school. i have been trying to install (illegally) multiple media search utilities such as imesh, scour exchange, and napster, and whil i can always install them, the will never connect correctly, and i hate it. we run win2kpro, and have a t1, and crappy computers. if you guys can help me, it'd be great. if you need more specs, let me know.------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 02 2000,15:25
You can't... Plain and simple, as much crap as is flung at Microsoft, they have developed a good operating system. You can't install things without being an administrator of that computer, and most likely you aren't going to change that unless you're a domain admin (a very not easy task).Your best bet, try to figure out what the Administrator password is. Don't make yourself an Administrator, because you'll be on a very short list of admins and will stick out like a sore thumb. You could create a dummy account on that computer and make it an admin account, and then when they find it, it's not linked to you. Bottom line, you're pretty screwed. There are no rootkits out there, there is no SID sitting around set (I know very little about lunix)... you can't even get back from the screensaver without a password if it's set that way... and rebooting won't help. i realize that win is a decent system, but lame as i am, i still have been able to install the progs. i am very dos savy, and have brought in boot disks after having actually reset the bios. what i really need is a way make the programs connect to the servers. i dont know if they just wont run correctly in this type of setting or what, but this is a huge problematic inconvenience------------------ "i like to skate on the other side of the ice" -steve wright please feel free to ignore anything i happen to incoherently utter This message has been edited by peregrin on November 02, 2000 at 01:17 PM Posted by Mike on Nov. 02 2000,19:37
well, i would guess that your school would have a firewall, at least mine did, and they have it set to not permit anything incoming or outgoing on the ports which those programs use. you can't bypass a firewall from one of the school computers unless you are wanting to attempt to hax0r the school network. If you do this and get caught, the result would not be too nice. My suggestion is to just forget abnout it.------------------ Posted by Neophyre on Nov. 02 2000,20:25
i have a little program a mate of mine over in london made for me, for the purpose of gaining the admins password.as some of u might know, win2k locks the computer after a certain time of inactivity, and only a password, usually the user's can unlock it. the program imitates this, by locking the computer, and prompting the user for the admin user/pass. you can enter in the domain u want shown, and what type of user can unlock the computer. the user goes and gets the admin and admin types in his pass, and the prog logs it for you i've done it before, and it works ------------------ Posted by RenegadeSnark on Nov. 02 2000,22:32
quote: LOL you are dumb. YOU HAVE TO BE BEHIND A ROUTER! THE INTERNET = LOTS OF COMPUTERS PLUGGED INTO LOTS OF ROUTERS! If you take away routers, it's like asking the ENTIRE WORLD to have their computers on the same LOCAL AREA NETWORK. WTF? What you REALLY need to do is set up a proxy OUTSIDE of the school firewall, in a place where the school firewall will permit you to access it. Then you'll have to do something odd to use your existing proxy to proxy to the other. I did this at my school. Sorry, it will be interesting to try to route anything other than HTTP, unless you can set up a proxy within the school on a computer that has *DIRECT* nonproxied internet access. syf0n, you have really got to learn about networking man. Your knowledge of networking is second to my dog's. My dog knows better than to chew on power and networking cables. She also seems to understand how to find her way out of an empty room, etc etc. *** Edited to fix a friggin spelling error I included in the all caps up above, out of pure frustration. all right, so i am behind a proxy. last year i was able to connect, but last year we used the latest nt. i also wondered what you meant by a different computer inside the network. did you mean a box that was plugged into the network? or was it a mistake, that you meant a box plugged in somewhere else, like a linux server or something? if the latter, then how do i connect to it once it is up? telnet is dissallowed. and thatnks for the site, i have been using anonymizers for a while, but this is even better. any more advice? any progs i can use? any special way i could hack the system?------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 03 2000,15:08
Let me preface by saying that I misread your original post and thought that the problem was that you couldn't install programs, not that you couldn't connect outside. The idea that ReneganeSnark was trying to get across is that probably the only thing your firewall is permitting is communication on port 80 (http). If you can build (or find)an app that will funnel data that it recieves on port 80, and transport it across port 6669 (or whatever napster uses), and responds in the opposite direction, then place the app on a computer outside of your school network (ie, has access to the real internet), then you can do all sorts of bad evil things. There should be a similiar procedure for the rest of your devilish apps. The entertaining part is that if you have great net access in the outside world, why would you need to do things the school doesn't like at school. Hell, I wait until I get home from work to look at stileproject. There are supposed to be some Napster proxies out there, or something, but I wouldn't be too concerned about that as it's about to go under anyways. ------------------ Posted by RenegadeSnark on Nov. 03 2000,20:40
Not quite that easy as funneling data through port 80. Most proxies I have run into have timeouts, so you have to find an app especially intended for the purpose. Even then I think the proxy server wouldn't like to handle 2-way communication (in the case of an HTTP one at least) - it would only let a request be made then fulfill it.

this is all very helpful. i checked and found that the connection is only over port 80. anybody wanna tell me where to find these cool apps?------------------ Posted by RenegadeSnark on Nov. 07 2000,02:36
quote: I've never found an app to funnel through 80. I don't want to write one either - waste a lot of time just to find out the proxies our school uses don't support 2-way constant communication... although I suppose they might there's a big enough chance they wouldn't that I don't want to play with it. ------------------ Founder < http://tucb.com/ >

i was wondering, if i were to open a connection through dos with an ftp prompt or a telnet system, is there any way that might work? say, if i had admin access?------------------ Posted by hal0 on Nov. 07 2000,16:14
Umm.. this is all great how you are figuring out how to get on napster and all, but why do you want to go and download mp3s anyway? is there a cd burner in your computer so you can burn them and take them home? Are you gonna be playing some Sevendust during your computer class or something? Just wondering.------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Nov. 08 2000,11:37
most schools use zip drives, so im guessing he just wants to copy them to zip, silly------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. Posted by peregrin on Nov. 08 2000,13:37
i forgot to mention; it isn't just napster that i want to use. mainly imesh and scour exchange. and no, we dont use a burner, but the computer dedicated to me does indeed have a zip, however that is not my import/export medium. i use the usb port to employ my minidisc player/recorder. it has approx= amounts of space compared to a cd. my only reason for doing this is that i cant connect quite so quickly (or at all) at home. i abuse the school for it's 2 t1 connections.------------------ |
