so im looking for some serious reccommendations... i dont wannt hear "DUDE YOU HAVE TO GET FUCKING 24 INCH SUBS MAN AND 60000W AMP!!! ITS WHAT I HAVE AND IT GOES OFF!!"

so basically im looking for something around 躔-700AUD (250-350US) that will pump the bass... either 2x12 inch box or 2x15 inch, that price inclues amp btw. is this possible? can i get something decent for that price? and im torn between 12 and 15 inchers cause i love the bass of 15's, but my mate has 15's and the response time is a little too noticable, specially with fast music. but rap sounds mad

i had 2x12's and they were pretty good, though the amp was pretty crappy i think.

is it even worth thinking about getting say a 10 inch woofer and subs aswell, so the subs can be even bassier cause the midlow stuff is handled by the woofer? sounds expensive tho

The 10's dont hit the really low shit at all, so my system doesn't rattle windows from 2 streets away, but it's definately loud enough to do serious hearing damage. 10 inchers have the optimum response time, so any kind of music with fast bass hits (rock, some techno, etc) sounds absolutely great.

Go with 12s if you want the gut shaking lows though. You wont get great fast bass, but it's all a trade-off.

And DEFINATELY get a sealed box. Different types of boxes will be louder, but will sound like shit comparatively.

With respect to the amp, this is what makes your system. Dont get good subs and a crappy amp. Spend the dough on a good amp and get lesser subs if you have too.
Here is my personal opinion about the amps Ive heard and played w/ in mine or my friends cars.. (These are only amps i've used/heard so no flames if i left something out :] )
Bad: Pyramid, Optimus, Jensen, Kenwood, Profile, Sony, Rockwood, Kengate, Krunch

Good: MTX, Infinity, Rockford Fosgate, Kenwood eXcelon, McIntosh

anyway, enough of that. aventari, sounds like a damn good idea, when i had the 12's i didnt notice response time at all, but you did make the 10's sound pretty appealing i really wish i did have a few more bucks casue then maybe i could get like a box with two 10's and one 12 or even 15 to 'catch up' with the bass from the 10's, if you know what i mean.
anyway, i dont have the money yet, so im still considering... i just wish i could listen to all different combo's of subs and amps in my own car. oh well. i hadnt actually considered 10's at all, so thanks for the advice

oh yeah, the sealed box thing. by that do you mean literally sealed tight? cause i remember my old box (2x12's) had like 4 air holes. how does this make a difference? and if sealed is better, why do they sell them unsealed?

Not my opinion, just from his info. I still have the stock standard stereo in my car. I'll upgrade as soon as I get ~躔 to spend on nothing else.

fatbitch- A friend of mine is really into car audio (like competition level) and i have asked him about mixing subwoofer sizes in a car. He is adamantly oppsed to the idea, and explained why.
If you put different size subs in, the pressure waves they create will be different. When they hit each other the waves will mess with each other and screw up the sound. you can use different size mid and high drivers because the waves are smaller and you wont notice the difference.

I know how correct that is, thats just what my friend said, but if you look at competition systems, they never mix sub sizes. They have vans with like 30 10" subs, but ALL 10". there's a reason.

anyway back on subwoofers, my uncle has a 12" sub (is it ' or " for inches? crazy imperial system ) that he is willing to sell me really cheap, but its just the cone, not box. so i dunno, maybe if i got another 12 and 2 boxes, i.e 2 12" boxes... or maybe even put 2 12's in the one box (cause i really don't think i'd be satisfied with just the one).... but then i gotta buy an amp... argh so damn expensive
