Oh askheaves, where is that link when we need it?

Okay, all you l4m0r m0r0nz who have been spamming these boards:

Acceptable newbie behavior:
-- lurk and learn
-- think before post
-- PLEASE don't start new topics

Unacceptable newbie behavior:
-- starting moron posts, especially when you have under 10 posts--moron posting is reserved for CK
-- spam-posting
-- attacking senior members without a very good reason

OK, n00bz, take notes. You violators know who you are. You are the reason why a Senior Lounge even exists.

What kind of post do you think this is, jackass? Have you already forgotten what it is like inside the mind of a newbie?

Why your post is useless:

  • Newbies are naturally rebellious of authority. You can think of it as newbies having to defend themselves because of their title as "lam0r".
  • Newbies (or anyone else for that matter) will not listen to anyone who calls them a "l4m0r m0r0n".
  • A newbie naturally wants their first few posts to be good ones. Think of this as a good first impression. If they make bad posts, then they will be forever shunned by the detnet community. A smart newbie will not make bad posts in the first place.
  • You shouldn't have brought CK into this. He is a totally separate topic, and including his name only directs newbies to all of CK's posts. Thus, newbies reply to them, which creates, you guessed it, shitty posts.

By the way, are you able to get in the Senior Lounge Jynx?

we could always start a newbie club.. those of us still in it could elect officers.. and then hold fund-raisers like car washes.. and then, after that, we cna go outside and have a sack race.
*sarcasm*

yeah, i'd be one of those n00bs too...

Hey, stop making fun of newbies. Just because we have to look at the UBB code page when we're typing doesn't mean we aren't 1337 hax0rs too.

I have said too much...

Hmmm, what's the code for image? Oh, here it is:

Every time I log in to these forums, I see a new name in the "welcome our newest member" display.

There's a shit ton of registered accounts here. Who the hell is around? How many lurkers are there?

It's easy. A lot of us have found a second community here. We've found a bunch of people we can talk to, make fun of, have political debates with, have pissing contests with, have geeky conversations with, learn from, learn life lessons from, etc. If you've been here for 2 weeks and think that you've entered this place where people just kind of write jibberish, then you're sorely mistaken. A lot of us have been frequenting here because we have, what us geeks would consider, friends here. People we would call up to have a beer with if we visited their town. People we confide with outside. People we start relationships with. It's not just a bullitan board to a lot of us, and some of us have put significant time into the relationships we build here.

To come in and start trying to bucking the system by calling us elitist is a poor decision. People have come and gone over time, some of them staying because they understand, humbly, that they have entered a community. A community of geeks and freaks who need another outlet from life to vent or talk or discuss. You've entered a community here, not a cgi page. Whether it makes me a geek or not, I feel a sense of commitment to the 'elders' of this place.

I'm totally going to agree with ol' askheaves here, mainly because i "lurkeed" on here for a while with someone else who also posts here, and when i finally registered i felt like i had entered a whole kick ass world of other people as geeky or freakish as i was.. and damnit if i'll let some other kid interupting my chances to get known here.. i love this place.. hell, i mkaae stupid posts, i don't deny it, but at least i don't come on here telling peoiple with 1000+ posts that their fucking assholes.

Posted by Hellraiser on Sep. 27 2001,16:36
Some people with 1000+ posts are assholes, but they're a small minority. The greater majority of newbies though are assholes till they learn their place, though unfortunately it takes longer for some people to learn than others.

There's a difference between being a rebel or an individual on the forum and being just plain down right lame, and it seems that for some reason, most people don't learn that till they've been around a few months and been flamed a few times.

CK, we love to make fun of you 'cause you take it so well--consider it a compliment

CAPSlamorPat, you have just eptiomized all that's bad about n00bs. Plus, the evidence for your "newbies want their first posts to be good ones" is heavily against you. Yes, there are exceptions, but I've noticed that most, if not all, of those exceptions are folks who have actually lurked for a while (read: at LEAST a month) before posting. The difference is noticable, trust me.

Also, I will drag CK into whatever I bloody well please--it's called an inside joke.

And no, I don't have access to the Senior Lounge, that's the POINT. There is now a place where some of the more intelligent posters on this board can go and talk about stuff without all of the n00b-static. When they go there, I miss out on some of the personalities that got me hooked on DetNet in the first place. I mourn their loss, and will take it out on whoever I want, currently the n00bs who are wasting cr0's perfectly good storage allocations with an overabundance of useless, brain-dead crap.

Oh, and heaves--thx for the link, you shouldn't have to do it again.
