Should I worry about my local ISP seeing the sites that ive been to and possibly discontinue my service? Posted by Spydir Web on Jan. 13 2001,22:21
only if you've been downloading "Shutting down my ISP with Red Hat Linux HOWTO"...------------------ Posted by kuru on Jan. 13 2001,22:32
or o'reilly's 'hacking root: an intro to gaining control of my isp'it's the one with the llama on the cover. ------------------ Posted by Spydir Web on Jan. 13 2001,23:57
yeah but you can't download that, unless you're getting the 0-day w4r3z of it...Oh, and if you're running a kiddie porn server (like PersonGuy's uncle), you don't have to worry about your ISP, it'll probably be the FBI "discontinuing your service"... ------------------ Posted by smartsnake on Jan. 14 2001,00:07
I'm not running kidde porn. But I dont want the mshutting me down if I'm looking at porn

I'm kind of curious about the Sprint Broadband service. They seem to have a nasty looking agreement, and even slashdot did a story on it a little while back. < http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/01/02/136222&mode=nested > Does this sound insane? It didn't to me, but I don't read a lot of ISP agreements. It says I can't even surf pr0n... something I seem to want to do nearly daily. (stileproject could be considered pr0n) Posted by Spydir Web on Jan. 14 2001,01:08
a majority of ISP's won't shut you down for surfing porn. The only reason they would as much as "monitor" anything you do is if you give them reason... Just stick to the legal stuff (as in "no I'm not over 18, but I'm still clicking ENTER!") and you're fine... and if they are monitoring you, make sure you have some "inteligent" hits in your list, too, they'll take you more seriously ------------------ Posted by solid on Jan. 14 2001,02:23
of course they dont shut you down for porn.youre paying them right? aside from that they kinda realize the majority of internet connections are bought and used for porn regularly aside form other things (by majority i mean over 50\%). Posted by kai on Jan. 14 2001,03:34
wouldn't it be kinda illegal for them to shut you down for pr0n. i'm pretty sure that's like unconstitutional or something.------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 14 2001,04:54
Yahoo banned Nazi memorabilia from their auctions... you have to pay THEM when you hold an auction...------------------ Posted by Observer on Jan. 14 2001,10:00
Much like it takes more for a University to kick out an out-of-state student than a state-resident student. The one from out of state is giving them nearly double the money that the in-state student is. Oh, and I almost forgot...athletes. But that's another rant.------------------ Posted by kuru on Jan. 14 2001,17:17
an isp is not going to get rid of you without strong evidence that say, you know who killed jfk.they want your money. ------------------ Posted by Cyclone on Jan. 15 2001,05:46
Hmmm...an ISP is kinda like a friend...uh...if your friend is really mean to you all the time, then maybe it isn't a friend at all... ------------------ |
