Who else is waiting for this one?

Heard some disturbing news. Apparently Liv Tyler as Arwen is actually involved in some battle scenes. I wonder what other things will be changed?

I'm currently in the process of re-reading the Trilogy to prepare.

Anyone else heard anything interesting?

Yes, you're the only one.

I'm dying to see it!!!!!!!!

I've been hearing lots of interesting and cool stuff about it, but confidentially, eh.... ITS A SECRET!!!!!!

Anyways. I'm gonna be among the first in line to see it I think.

Every time I see the preview I shiver... then at the end I yell "HELL FUCKING YES!" at the end... Yeah, so maybe I'm a dork, but it looks increadably cool. I don't know though. I hope they didn't work Arwen in before the elven forest, that would just be lame.

I'm with you. It doesn't excite me all that much, but it'll probably be a good flick. For me, Willow is my movie! Go Midget Brigade!

I remember seeing the Hobbit in the theater when I was young, then I heard Lord of the Rings was going to come out shortly after ...and then I waited some 23 years. WTF! This better be some movie. The only other thing I waited nearly that long for was beer ...so this movie better be better then beer.

Shadowrun? I wish I could find out what happened to my whole collection of Shadowrun books.

Some of those geek dudes who I used to discuss that stuff and play with are really hot now...

This is probably one of the only movies that could compete with Harry Potter.

That's basicly the only major change they made to the story, from what I've read on all the internet sites and interviews. She was in the books, just not much of a part. Basicly, they needed a love interest in the story, which isn't far from the trueth since this was hinted at in the books. They put in this love interest and took out one or two semi-homosexual parts. They weren't concidered homosexual when the book was first published, but over the decades our culture has become more and more homophobic, so they just wanted to be save and took them out.

The only other changes I've heard of are that we get to see Sauron briefly (like a flash back thing) during the first age (READ THE SILMARILLION, better than Hobbit or Lord of the Rings IMHO), and we get to see more of Sauron in the movie so that the enemy seems more real.

They have some of the best people working on this. They are making all the armer like they would have back in medival times (anvil, furnace, big burly smith), all the chain mail is being linked by hand, each race has their own liquist that works with them to get their acsent down and all pronounations just right. Bascily, they aren't throughing the movie's budget at the catering. Oh, and there will be no Tom Bombidil. He added too much time to the movie(they are all around 3 hours right now!), and he didn't advance the story line very much.

I'm already camping out infront of a theater waiting to get in. If not in body, at least in mind and spirit. Go Hobbits!

They made all three movies before the first one came out so it had better not suck (at least for mr. woods sake).

They are based on some of the best fantasy books ever written, plus the CGI is awesome, I don't know if it is worth a thread before it comes out but i am going to go see it.

What I want to know is...

Who the FUCK is 'Arwen' the elf?

And yes, it has to be said again...

One more thing, you all keep saying how she was introduced in the (forgotten name) Forest in the first book of the triolgy. I don't recal this at all, and as far as I know, the nly female elf the ever actually put a name to was Galadriel.

Word on the street is the Dude With Blue Boots™ (read, Tom Bombadil) isn't in the movie.

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground!
I wonder if it will be friends with me?

And the rest, after a sudden wet thud, was silence.

Arwen is Elrond's daughter, and Aragorn's love interest. She wasn't introduced in Lothlorien (the forest), she appeared in Rivendell. But she was talked about in Lothlorien by Aragorn and Galadriel. Galadriel is her grandmother (I think).

demonk: how could you say the Silmarillion is better? It reads like a damn text book, which is essentially what it is anyway. Interesting, yes...entertaining, no.

So you are saying there are "no" homosexual midget scenes? Then what's the point of seeing it at all?
Posted by Tattered on Nov. 26 2001,18:42
I'm reading the series right now as well.. starting with the hobbit.

FUCK THAT. Tom Bombadil is a fundamental part of the movie ... he isnt affected by the ring ... and he gives merry his sword after the run-in with the barrow-wights -- which is important later on. You can't change that!

It all depends on the person reading it. I thought that the stories in it are more grand in scope than The Hobbit or LoTR, but I can see how you would see it more as a text book. It is very dense reading, and if you aren't used to it, it can seem very dry and boring. The first part is just something you have to wade through, because it sets up the rest of the book. They are all good books, and I don't know of anyone, alive or dead, that has ever written such a masterpiece as the Universe of Middle-Earth.

A Barrow-Writh(sp?) is basicly an evil spirit who hoards stuff, or at least that's what I think. Tom Bombidil is something kind of special. He truely wasn't effected by the ring. He's explanation was that he was old before the hills were young, so he can't be effected by stuff that was created after he come to Middle-Earth. He doesn't really "fit" with the world or the story, unless he appears in the Silmarillion sometime before the end. Oh well. Back to homework. Oh, to be a Hobbit!
