What the hell are these things? How the hell do they work? It's like a transparent Flash ad. I don't understand, and they're so annoying. They're going to have ads one day that just forward you page to another company's website. You can't even see what's on the page you want. And then when you get to that page, it just forwards in an endless loop. Internet hell. Oh no. ------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Nov. 24 2001,04:20

playnet, the company we all host with, started using them recently. or they want to start using them. a lot of playnet sites might start to feature them.

I am not sure which ads you are talking about. All pop-up ads are annoying and pointless since no one ever reads them, but these sound extra annoying; do you have a site that you know has them?

The first South African Web site I've ever been to features only white people on the main page.Oh, good. Posted by Hellraiser on Nov. 24 2001,11:22
How the hell do they work? Right-click: view source (or page source if you're lame enough to use Nutscrape). If you see a linked javascript, just download it (or search your temporary internet files for it) and open it in a plaintext reader. If its a .class or .jar or then its Java. If its a .swf then its Flash. Very simple.------------------ Posted by smart on Nov. 24 2001,13:07
I understand, but it's weird... because it's a mix of javascript and Flash or something... at least the one I saw. I saw it on wb11.com I think... it was like a transparent Flash ad. Numbers were falling from the top of the screen. It was weird.

I got it now. A company called "eyeblaster" does them. They say that when you go to a webpage, it loads another "layer" of web items over your page, even though it is just a javascript. < Eyeblaster.com > for more info + examples. they have to run an activex script to work, make you browser prompt you before running activex scripts or better yet disable them and no more annoying floatting ads.

It's an amazing new invention of a standard called CSS. You know you can use them for layers? Right??......Look it up... ------------------ Posted by Wiley on Dec. 02 2001,12:26
