Are you on crack or what?------------------ Posted by Bozeman on Jan. 08 2001,00:26
I wouldn't know, I'm a geek, not a nerd.

"..we dine well here in Camelot. We eat ham and jam and spam a lot."-sorry, couldn't resist ------------------ Posted by hyperponic on Jan. 08 2001,01:16
taking this question *way* more seriously than it should be taken, anyone with an open mind probably listens to music from all kinds of genres. unless you're either always in the same mood or close-minded, what's the point of only listening to one musical style all the time?------------------ Posted by solid on Jan. 08 2001,01:23
quote: OR, you're like me- of course- im not so open minded as to listen to country, but like that other thread- thats a given.
Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 08 2001,14:04
Right on hyperponic! Sometime's when I'm in that ye-ha mood I'll pull up a little country! But normally I'm just into that primal DANCE genre... yah!/me poses, gives big thumbs-up, and a big toothy grin ------------------ Posted by Wolfguard on Jan. 08 2001,14:47
I just listen to the harmony of 6 fans, 7 hard drives and the hum of 3 power supplies. What geek truly needs more?------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Jan. 08 2001,16:28
I have house music running trough me veins progresseive, hard, acid, trance they all are bangin' phat TUUUUUUUUUNES! sorry just had to let me clubbing spirit out for a sec there ------------------ Posted by Greasemonk on Jan. 08 2001,20:05
From all the dorks and nerds Ive seen sitting there on MTV I have one thing to say. Its got to be alternative/rap I.E. Limp Bizkit or incarnates like Papa Roach. Dump Fred Durst and his ego and bald head. He better keep wearing those stupid tube hats.
Posted by whiskey@throttle on Jan. 08 2001,21:48
Dorks, maybe. As for me, its either whiskey-bent rocknroll a la AC/DC & theSupersuckers... ...dark, hard rock a la Sabbath or Fu Manchu... ...or the astrotech/ultramodern world that is drum and bass, jungle, breakbeat... Posted by kuru on Jan. 09 2001,00:11
i don't like rap or country, and i dislike any band that doesn't actually play music. (being unable to play instruments for example.)everything from say, van halen to ludwig von beethoven is cool, along with gregorian chant and a few truly exceptional modern alternative songs. and no boybands or britney spears clones. ------------------ Posted by blanalex on Jan. 09 2001,01:23
Why do rap/hip hop and alternative has to be the only two choices?I don't like those two kind except for one song or two each. I prefer dance, euro-dance, techno, trance, some songs from quebec, a bit of classical, and sometimes... pop music (/me runs for cover) However, what I prefer overall is Pink Floyd, but not often b/c while their music is very good, it's not 'easy listening' music. For example, and the end of the Echoes masterpiece (yes, IMHO that tune is really a masterpiece) from the Meddle album, I have sometimes headache. Maybe because the song is 23minutes long... Speaking of Echoes, does anyone here already tried the synchronicity with Echoes and 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Well, I'm not a fan of rap or country, and there's a reason. Normally it's unispired, unoriginal, untalented CRAP! However, everyonce in a while you'll get a great song from Eminem, BustaRhymes, or LimpBizkit. Remember that song "Virtual Insanity"? I don't know who it was by, but it had a very original feel that I liked! Even Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog has some good stuff here and there. A GREAT rap song was that that one (pretty old) with the music video where all the ghoast floating up to heaven. Oh yah, and don't forget "9 Inches Hard" by Juice!quote: As far as country I can't think of any specifics, but Bela Fleck's bluegrass has got some good stuff goin on! Anyway, I'm REALLY not into those genres AT ALL, I just wanted to point out that I can enjoy it when the get some smart music goin for a change. ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 09 2001,01:36
Oh yah, and pop... it's over hyped BS, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a little Britney or BSB every once in a while. Of course I'd never by an album though... they play it for free every 2 seconds on the radio! Oh yah, and anyone heard Hanson's new album? I was VERY suprised to find out that it's some very smart, very well desinged stuff! To me, I think it's quite a bit better than the over-hyped Mad Season. Posted by Prometheus on Jan. 09 2001,01:53
Actually, I have. Very good sounds. As far as my genre goes... I like a good mix. Country and rap are out, for the most part. Rock and alternative for me.And have you heard the new Fastball CD? Good stuff. edit -- Bad English...... This message has been edited by Prometheus on January 09, 2001 at 08:57 PM Posted by diusFrenzy on Jan. 09 2001,02:07
virtual insanity wasn't rap PersonGuy, it's light alternative and it was by jamiroquai (that's almost certainly spelled wrong).I thought geeks and nerds alike were mostly into techno, hard rock and industrial..., hmmm maybe we're not all NIN fanatics...shame. ------------------ Posted by Observer on Jan. 09 2001,05:05

If you are a disciple of a printer I failed to mention, I apologize. ------------------ Posted by Spydir Web on Jan. 09 2001,22:32
I've taken a very large liking to rap... not really that "dirty south" No Limit Soldiers or Cash Money stuff (but as a producer I do like some of the beats), but more the "horrorcore" genre... namely detroit, MI/MI in general underground rap. Stuff like ICP, Twiztid, Halfbreed, Esham, NATAS, L.U.Cipha, Bedlam, Heretix 666, and a few others... The stuff's pretty fucked up (a majority of it has to do with killing, sex in sick and demented ways, and pretty much "the wicked shit"). I like some other rap, namely for either the lyrical nature or the sheer beats, but sometimes both. I've always had a love for really hard rock stuff, but I've taken a trip out from most forms of well known music for my beloved horrorcore rap . I got a few techno CD's, and love them. I mostly get complications of stuff, because a lot of single group/person's techno doesn't give me an even mix of stuff. I also got a few cd's from stuff I can't exactly classify, probably because I just don't listen to enough of one genre or two to say... But I really like Harvey Danger. The guys that sung that "paranoia, paranoia everbody's coming to get me!" song... their first CD had some of the best writing I have heard in my life from one band, and the second one's not that bad, I just don't think up to the first's par...Time to shutup... So basicly I just like a mix of stuff. Like most, I don't like country... After a whole day of travel with my sister's church group to a water park in a hick place (so country music on the PA), I've had enough for the rest of my life. ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 10 2001,00:28
Mabey a bit of a hybrid then... hehe, but the music video was cool! Oh, and I almost forgot! The rap in Office Space was used as an oxy-moron joke because it's the total oppisite of nerd! Oh yah, and "Secret Wars" on the Celb DM CD rocked! hehe ------------------ Posted by Rshias on Jan. 10 2001,10:36
Mostly an alternative/rock/metal mix for me. Pretty much whatever fits my mood and sounds good resides on my mp3 list though. Lately that's been a lot of Crazytown, Spine Shank, and Linkin Park.
Posted by pengu1nn on Jan. 10 2001,14:02
i saw linkin park when they came with the kottonmouth kings.i listen to very little rap, house of pain, cypress hill, icp, kottonmouth kings, and thats about it. primer 55 is cool (what i'm about to listen to), slipknot and some other shit i hate country!! faith hill is hot though Posted by askheaves on Jan. 10 2001,14:16

quote: That would be Jamiroqoui (spelling?), but I wouldn't go so far as to say Jay Day - the frontman - is very original. He's got quite the Stevie Wonder vibe going on... I'm glad you mentioned Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, though! Futureman and Vic Wooton rock so much I like them better than Bela himself. I saw them once with Strunz & Farah...great show. Selection: Britney 1 & 2 or Christmas albums... 100000 in stock... or one of 5 other bands that suck...Yah wiskey-man! They're a great live band, and they have good albums too! Future Man r00lz! ------------------ Posted by kuru on Jan. 11 2001,02:43
personguy: i usually check out dave's music mine, record graveyard, or any of the other numerous used record/cd stores in the area. guaranteed some college student had a whopper of a credit card bill that he couldn't pay and sold back his cd collection.and then i can buy 'em for 4 bucks ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 11 2001,13:48
O I C... that's like Buzzard Records over here... but in that case I go eBay...------------------ Posted by a.out on Jan. 12 2001,01:51
Hmm, this is weird. Am I the only one here who listens to classical? I occasionally listen to other stuff, but it's mostly classical taking up my 6gb mp3 collection.

read dude.

I too am into some classical every now and then (mostly ever since I got a sound system that sounds like I have an orchestra in the corner of my room) my current favorites are: Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Mahler, and Stravinsky. Fantasia 2000 is my favorite movie off all time.Of course my passion is still Drum & Bass. Classical is more intelligent and complicated, but D&B touches my soul like nothing else. ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 12 2001,14:02
Blain: check out "Big Loada" by Squarepusher... PURE D&B at it's best! Oh, and I'm into classical and opera too... all my rap/country/pop talk was pointing out that those are my LEAST favorite genres, but I can still enjoy them at times... ------------------ Posted by porn_dealer on Jan. 12 2001,20:41
I'm in to basically any form of music; rap, rock, techno, and the occasional classical music that I'm learning at the moment. The only thing I can't stand is country, then again, that seems to be the general consensus around here.------------------ Posted by Blain on Jan. 12 2001,21:34
Squarepusher is an interesting case; some of their songs are absolutely brilliant, but some of their stuff is a little too...abstract/chaotic for me. My current favorite CD is < Breakbeat Era >. Incredible stuff. Posted by DjSokol on Jan. 12 2001,21:56

Virtual Insanity was by Jamiroquai and the singer is Jay Kay, not Jay Day. They're a very good band.Anyway, hip-hop is one of the most versatile, influential and stunning forms of music on the planet. Yes, that's right, it's music. Just because somebody doesn't stand there strumming a guitar like a billion others have done before doesn't mean it's not music. I don't think I'm really a geek, if you told me to hack something I'd go and find an axe but here's some of the bands I like anyway: Prodigy (you know who they are) I don't think there's really anything like a genre that geeks only listen to. People who can get so obsessive about computers probably have the same method with everything else i ntheir life including music so they can go to extreme ends of the scale like that guy saying he likes ICP. The thing is, I expect young geeks are the other way, just liking whatever cheese they hear on the radio because they're spending too much time defragging their hard drive to do anything else. BTW rap isn't a genre of music, it's something that can be done in music and rapping should really be called emceeing but it doesn't really matter for most people. Also, can you try not to mention hip-hop and country music in the same sentence, please. Except for just then.
