Well, as the subject says...and then I go back out on Mon. Figured I'd do this instead of a bunch of thread revivals.

1. Thanksgiving: for once I appreciate German store hours (the only place I've seen stores open past 4pm is in Stuttgart. Maybe its a Bavaria thing). Munched on Wild Boar. Good stuff.

2. Liney- don't join the German army. Your army is so important that we're using them as gate guards at our bases while we go train. I don't know about you but I'd rather not do a rent-a-cop's job. This isn't to say that they don't have cool toys. I'd like to try out their rifles and I've heard that the tanks are pretty good. From what I've been told, the problem is retaining qualified troops and a lack of training. If you'd like to do something militaristic, I'd suggest getting your degree and becoming an officer.

3. On a similar topic, if you want BDUs, go with black or OD (olive drab). They'll match more of your stuff when military clothing becomes less fashionable (and it will). I'd also suggest purchasing from US Cavalry or Ranger Joe's. Anything you buy on the economy is going to last about as long as this trend does.

4. Devin Townsend and Fear Factory tonight in Nurnberg.

5. Someone posted that Korn is thrash. Korn is NOT thrash. The following bands may be called thrash or speed metal.
Anthrax, Slayer (some will say death metal, this is wrong), Metallica (before the sell-out), Megadeth (before the sell-out), Exodus, Testament, Suicidal Tendencies (starting with Controlled by Hatred and ending with Art of Rebellion), Exciter, Annihilator, Anacrusis, Flotsam&Jetsam, Sepultura (although it would be understandable if some called the first couple albums death metal), Dark Angel, Metal Church, Nuclear Assult, S.O.D., M.O.D., C.O.C. (the earlier albums), Armored Saint, Celtic Frost, Overkill, Carnivore...
Please learn your metal subgenres before misapplying labels. Korn is more appropriately called nu-metal or mallcore.

6. This should probably go in the rants area, but I'm here now. These idiots shut down the main intersection of Schlict without providing for an alternate route. Fortunately I'm not concerned about taking the beater onto trails around cornfields. Where's this supposed German efficiency?

Edit- yeah, there are probably more spelling errors.

hahaha, thrash.
Wow, you brought back some memories there.
I remember a mate at school (1986/7) asking me if I liked speed, to which I told him I didn't do hard drugs.
Then I got handed a slayer tape.

hehe. exodus, et al... cool.

Don't worry, I won't join the German Army. As to their toys... my dad told me this morning that I could come with them next year and try out shooting. His exact words were "you'll like the MG's I think"

1LT:

Just got myself yet another pair of BDU pants. I have a friend who's in the Navy. He buys 'em for me at the PX and mails them.

Same all cotton ProFormance ones sold on uscavalry.com, except I don't pay shipping. Since there's no sales tax here, and the price is exactly the same, I get a better deal buying this way. OD and black are the only two colors I'll wear, because I don't want to look like a psycho redneck chick.

I think later this winter I might go snag the black Alice Pack with frame, since I currently do not have the frame for my OD one.

Just checking up on stuff before I leave tomorrow.
For those of you who don't care... SYL is fucking awesome, Fear Factory was disappointing and Godflesh looks like they got Raven to play bass (besides Ted Parsons on drums). What ever happened to Prong?

Liney- Enjoy. The medics host the 9mil range every couple of months. We have a blast firing all the remaining ammo after everyone leaves.

Kuru- It's good that you can get them cheap. I only suggested those two sites, because, unless she has an ID, Liney wouldn't be able to buy them on post. The other reason is that I've seen commercially made stuff over here and, well... what's the point? If you're going to wear the stuff, buy the real deal and have it last longer.
Otherwise, why the all cotton? I prefer the NYCO/ripstop/summer BDUs (whatever you what to call them).
What size ALICE pack do you have? If it's the medium, I'd suggest using the shoulder straps. The frame can be a pain in the ass unless you actally need the support. If you need the frame, go to a military surplus store. You should be able to pick one up in good condition fairly cheap.

I have a medium sized one without the frame, and will probably get a full size with the frame.

Army/Navy surplus stores are pretty big business around here, but so far I've found that it's easier to ask my Navy buddy to just pick it up at the PX and I pay him back later.

If I couldn't do that, uscavalry.com would be the deal for me.

As for why I do the all cotton - that's more of a personal thing. Synthetic fabrics don't tend to let my body cool off as easily, and I'll get drastically sick if I get too warm.

I think it's silly to qualify metal bands into 20 different subcatagories. I think it's even more silly that people are offended when I call Korn a thrash band (seeing as how the guitarists only 'thrash' anyway). Thrash is just a ubiquidos term that I (and tons of other guitarists) use to describe !skill.

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like . . . ow . . . ound . . . round . . . ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground!
I wonder if it will be friends with me?

And the rest, after a sudden wet thud, was silence.
