Ok... I'm working on a couple new designs for my future "dot-com-probably-gonna-fail-and-I'll-be-in-the-hole-by-millions" company, and my personal site along with that, but I'm stuck. I want to break off from my old "tables for menus/low graphics" design, but I can't really get any ideas. So, what is it that really draws you guys/girls to a site, and what is it that makes you say "fuck this bull" and leave?I personally hate frames, I don't like many graphics (I like bandwidth friendly!), blinking text is and always will be a nono... and I can go on for a bit... so yeah. Any example sites of stuff you like? (note - I don't steal designs, I just wanna see what people like in a site ). I remember reading about this old place that did "open source web design" or something... I can't remember, maybe someone knows what I'm talking about. ------------------ Posted by Cyclone on Jan. 02 2001,20:51

You really need some cool graphics.------------------ Posted by kuru on Jan. 04 2001,03:11
content. content. content.javascript, java applets, midi and/or wav files, flash, blinking text, shitloads of animated gifs, images sized so large they don't fit on the screen at 1024 x 768 will all cause me to immediately click that 'back' button and get the hell outa dodge. ------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jan. 04 2001,14:56
This page doesn't use javascript?------------------ Posted by kuru on Jan. 04 2001,20:09
not enough so to be annoying.i'm talkin about pages that even over a t1 would take half an hour to load. oh, and people, please do not set static font sizes, especially if you are running 800x600. they become /impossible/ to read on big, high res monitors. a good webpage looks nice at any resolution. ------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jan. 05 2001,04:30
Static font sizes? When I make I site I usually use a style sheet and set my fonts to 10 or 12pt. Is this what you mean by a static font size? or do you mean setting the size in pixels (i.e. 10px)? Just wondering. Wouldn't want my web sites to need a magnifying glass, and I don't have a 21" monitor handy Posted by diusFrenzy on Jan. 09 2001,01:49
who's your dot-com's target audience? Because it makes all the difference in the world for your site design..., ex. if you're doing b2b you probably want a conservative corporate look (a la < www.autodesk.com >) with dark on light, small fonts, designed for limited resolution with slight (if any) literal scaling. On the other hand, if your target audience is sci-fi people with limited internet connections, try an optimized yet spacey look (a la < www.pseudolife.com). >). And frames are great...when used right. . Another corporate site you might want to check out is < www.bricsnet.com > (less conservative, but still highly corporate). This message has been edited by diusFrenzy on January 09, 2001 at 08:50 PM Posted by askheaves on Jan. 09 2001,13:18
