Not to be racist or offensive or anything, but I'm curious, Trog, if you're black?

I see you're from South Africa, and I know very little about the place, other than there's a very elite group of folks that seem to run most things, and those are white folks. Just curious. More than anything else, I'd really like to know more about the place.

IIRC, one of our British pals also spent some time in South Africa. He could chime in, if still around.

Heya,

Nope, I'm from a second generation british family, and white as can be.

(which is what's to be expected... the last time I saw the internet access stats, white folks were the majority of wired people, and I'd be surprised if that's changed..)

Who's in charge of South Africa is a very interesting question...

Politically, the ANC (a liberation movement) has 65\% of the seats in our national parliment, which also confers the presidency on their chosen Candidate, Thabo Mbeki (who is giving George W. a run for his money in the stupid stakes, but more of that later). It should be noted that a 67\% majority is required to make changes to the constitution of the country, and that figure makes a lot of people very worried, though the ANC have announced that they will make no changes to the constitution without support from the opposition.

Anyway, on the economic side of things, the wealth of the country is concentrated in the white population, a situation which is slowly being changed by affirmative action and black empowerment programs.

Any further questions will be answered to the best of my ability, but only on tuesday, because we have tommorrow and monday as public holidays thanks to easter
