Err.... I'm a leet hacker or whatever.. but i dunno.. but listen.. i wrote me an MP3 player in VB.. I'm looking for well, users.. and possibly some people to assist with coding.. its done and all and i update it when i want to but anywaysi dont know what to say about it.. except goto < http://slate.dynip.com/smp3p > Give me some feedback and crapola.. i use mine over winamp.. the main reason i wrote it is cause I didnt want to use an AOL MP3 player (Nullsoft - makers of winamp were bought by AOL).. Plus, i like the idea of a challenge.. Also, if you know of a good mp3 decoder/player file thing.. either DLL or activex control or whatever that I can use for free LEGALLY :P let me know..

Winamp still owns, even though it is owned by aol. Good switch to the fraunhofer.Anyway, DirectShow can decode MP3s if you string the appropriate filters together... BTW, anyone know a proggy that will let me rip music to some format better whan MP3. Like the MPEG-2 equivalent, AAC, which i hear sounds indistinguishable from the original with just 64Kbps, or even the audio compression from MPEG-4? Posted by Observer on Jan. 02 2001,01:14
I've heard some newer versions of Nero let you rip to VQFs. They're smaller and higher quality, just take a little more work from your processor to decode.------------------ Posted by askheaves on Jan. 02 2001,01:33
That didn't work very well. I tried installing on Win2K and it just didn't work. Most of it seemed to be with your attempt to use the common dialog stuff. After it failed installation, it didn't seem to put the executable anywhere.Do you have source code around? I'd like to look at it. If you need coding help, I'd be willing. Plus, I know C++ and DirectX decently well. Posted by Wen on Jan. 02 2001,13:58
The only time when aol owning a company is bad is when they do what they did to netscape(If any of you've seen netscape 6 you'd know what I mean... ughhhhhh) ------------------ Posted by SLATE on Jan. 02 2001,18:16
Wasn't made for/tested in anything but 98.. So I guess it don't work...The installer is VISE installer.. I dunno if it was Vise that gave you the install probs cause I dunno If you can give me more info, i'll let you know if its VISE or SMP3P Also, I'll have another friend with 2k test it and let me know what happens.. Ogg Vorbis sounds better than mp3 at lower bitrates. You could think of it as the next generation open source mp3 format. < www.vorbis.com >

How does ogg vorbis compare to, for example, AAC in terms of quality? This message has been edited by DuSTman on January 07, 2001 at 08:07 AM |
