basically, OTC woke up one morning and thought to themselves "eh, I think 50 megabits is enough for 30,000 students state wide". basically, it takes 5 minutes to load ANY webpage.

i don't know what they've done on my campus, but i can't even upload a 100k zip file to my email account from my dorm room, have to use the computer lab now.. but come after thanksgiving, the IT director is getting a swift boot in his ass, i've had enough of it.------------------ Posted by miNus on Nov. 18 2001,22:20
Why don't you get Starband, CK? You're always complaining about bandwidth... you can have your own personal sattelite up/down connection! Do they mind if you mount the dish on top of the dorm building?

Doubt it. My college is pretty strict about 'modifications' to buildings or building equipment. They wouldn't let me put up the equipment for wireless net access right outside my window when I asked last year, I doubt CK's school would let him put a dish on the roof =) Also, satellite net connections have a minimum latency of 400ms or something. Lame.

Yeah, wouldn't be good for games or anything, but once the 400msec was up (who the hell really notices the passing of 400msec anyway), it's probably faster than cable... dunno I haven't read about it in a while.What about one of those infrared wireless transmitters? You put the thing right next to your window, put another one some ways away (probably like in one of your buddies that has OC3 at his office, in a window that has a line of sight to your window) and BOOM!
