Am I the only one that was dissapointed by it? I guess I had higher expectations (or just a much higher intelligence than others here.

). Yes, the graphics were orgasmic, but other than that what did the movie have? Plot "eh", too much tree hugging hippy crap for me. Amazingly lacking in the musical department, which is something I love about the FF games. The script was horrid (have friends at square that said same thing), and I don't think the 'acting' was that great (terms of emotions playing through voices and such).
Oh well. </rant>

I was going to go see this simply because it's a milestone in CG (like Jurassic park, which left me slack-jawed), but the voice acting in the trailers off the web and on TV is just terrible! Nothing irritates me more than bad voice acting. I don't think I would pay to sit through that unless, I dunno, someone was going down on me during it.

Has anyone heard anything about the PS2-only DVD? I heard its gonna have all kinds of special features like rotational camera angles and such. Can't wait to get a job so I can buy one of those wonderous machines.

I agree with cr0. Most of the movie was pretty damn good, but there were several scenes where the voice acting was just downright horrible. It reminded me of the LEGO stop-action movies my friends and I used to make.

I was at a resturant, and I heard some girl saying that the girl looked so real they had to make it more fake because it frightened people who real it was...

I wanted to smack the girl for lying. Isn't that the POINT of CG's? To look real? And if they really did make it faker, then they're pussies. I heard that they are going to use Akki Ross in other non-FF CGI movies as if she was a real actress. Personally i think that is a good idea, just cut the whole narcissistic actors out of it.

i got to see it monday cause i got a ticket to the special hawaii premier. and since you asked, i also got a free t-shirt and clip of film from the movie. free popcorn and drinks too. unfortunatly they split us up in to two groups (important people vs. unimportant people) so i didnt get to talk to anyone who worked on the movie. and sitting in the theater for 45min while they dragged their asses kinda sucked too. but at least t was free, and it give me bragging rights too.

The movie was pretty good and the CG was simply AMAZING.

Come on.. if you're going to call it a spoiler at least give some background information that way my experience can actually be sort of spoiled. ok so i only JUST saw the film (me not having any money) and omfg did parts of that look real and i mean REAL! only bad points i could find was they didnt find a way to fit bahumat into it

oh well and the fucking projector was jumpy plus stupid kids were making rustling noises during all the quiet bits (stupid parents taking kids to films just cos they pg and are animated thinking it wont be an adult film) i liked the way they implemented alot of FF7's themes into it i was almost expecting when oki landed in the city for the screen to suddenly go all swirly some cheap midi music start up and the ATB appear but alas it didnt happen. also it didnt last 70 hours but all in all i think matrix can go sit down now. well fight culb can actually that beat matrix when i saw that. i especially liked the ending. none of ur hollywood "everyone comes back to life at the end" shit. the people stayed dead which was good. alas though i didnt see any chocobos or moogles

. btw did anyone realise this was done using moya.

square was forced to hire extra programmers to create some new, and god damned complex imagery and motion software.
but they had a big budget. its square, what do you expect?

they used maya, why else would it be in the credits? the programmers square hired wrote plugins for maya (eg. the plugin which made the hair so realistic).

I listened to the Square guys' talks at SIGGRAPH about FF the movie... Basically everything they did was based around Maya plus a few custom plugins. They were originally going to render in Maya too, but switched to Renderman halfway through (guess they realized the Maya renderer sucks =).

Most big studios (with the notable exception of Pixar) base things around Maya these days anyway. Altough they all do serious custom modifications; ILM's Maya setup is probably a weird half-mutant that bears little resemblance to the off-the-shelf software.
