Topic: what to do with my life?

Okay. School doesn't take much effort, my musical activities neither. I'll be in some kids' opera project but I have a feeling it won't take too much input either. I've just had an experience I'd like to get my mind away from (see my sex forum post about head games), and I need a challenge. Something that proves to myself that I'm a winner. That I can do things I didn't know I can do. Something that's fun and useful... and maybe not entirely brain/school related.

Any ideas?
mine so far were:
- shooting
- tap dancing
- becoming a h4x0r (but I mean, a real one)
- swimming
- getting a punching bag and learning how to fight the bad guys
- learning yet another foreign language

Probably I need some body workout or something... I feel over-energetic. But really anything would be welcome. Just keep in mind probably I'll be moving to go to university next year, and I don't have too much money.

Any suggestions?

Swimming is great fun/exercise, esp. if you join a team. I've decided to be an EMT for a while. The basic courses only take 11 hours, which is one easy semester.

Literally. Use Lego. You can make anything with Lego.

Devise a way to make cash out of Legos MeatJam and I'll give you many many shinny pennys!

You want a challenge? Start doing crew (rowing) if its offered in your area. You get worked pretty hard, but its rewarding as well.

You could always take up the cello as well, but I'm kinda biased there since I play it

Black and white photography is a really cool hobby. Get yourself a manual camera, and some black and white film, and start experimenting! Your first pictures won't be the greatest, but you'll develope a taste for it really quick.

HAHA. I remember like last year someone posted a link on Slashdot about a gun that was made out of Legos. It actually fired little Lego pieces at a resonable rate. Too bad I lost the link.

Maybe the army boys in this forum can offer some insight?

/me inserts obligatory sex joke here

But then again, that's kind of implied around here...

Becoming a h4x0r would be kind of cool, but it doesn't do much for the social life, and I'm not sure how German authorities look upon hacking...

Shooting would be good, I bet you'd meet people if you join a gun club and stuff. I want to get a gun... but my Dad doesn't like them, so I kind of have to wait till I get my own place, or at least move somewhere else...

Damn I miss Alaska!

I'd suggest something like martial arts. Good excercise, discipline, history, and you get to learn how to beat up the bad guys!

It really does give you a pretty cool feeling when you know you have a higher level of control over your body than most others and that you could handle yourself in an emergency if you needed to.

Once again, just my silly little opinion.

i do black and white photography ,astronomy and martial arts and i can say that they are all exellent pastimes.

if you wanna get fit do a martial art. don't do judo cos thats a sport not a martial art although you might enjoy it just for the fitness though its not that strenuous. i do jiu jitsu and i've never been fitter or more hard as nails

Dry ice bombs can provide hours of safe, but noisy fun. Particularly near police stations.

how are those made and what exactly do they do?

I'de actually highly back up that suggestion of Martial Arts. Nothing better, or for me anyways

There's Martial Arts for every style, every person, every mentality, it's wonderful. If you want to work on singuarly your muscles and your physical strength I'de suggest Kung-Fu or Tae Kwon Doe. These two focus on purely punching, kicking, throwing, and blocking form. For purely internal power I suggest learning Tai-Chi, and if you know your forms and start to apply them in a sparring situation it's actually increadably effective. You don't as need nearly as much muscle power, it uses your, and they're power against them much more effectivly. You simply don't have to moce as fast, and the moves are increadably powerful. To HURT and or SEVERELY injure your opponent, and quite effectivly disable someone go Jujitsu. For purely defensive go Akida. I could get much more detailed, but I'm just outlining some of the very popular ones. I personally LOVE Tai-Chi. It's so meditative and relaxing, and so brutelly effective.

Yeah, thus endeth Anztac's pimping of that.

very simple
first, you need some dry ice (you can get this at grocery stores and meat markets), water, and plenty of plastic/glassbottles/
put some of the dry ice in the bottole, the fil it about 1/4 up with water. screw on the cap, shake it, and run away.

*boom*

Martial Arts.... thats my choice I love it. Control over muscles and your total body is highly prized after you learn it. Your self control will increase. Buts thats my opinion.
