Ok usually I wouldnt put this kind of thing here but I have a problem. No, its not drinking, smoking, or paying for sex....this time. I recently aquired an Ultra sparc. Because of the way I got it, it didnt come with any support. When I first got it, it had a fubared version of sun os on it. So I wiped that out and downloaded the sparc version of redhat to put on it. I could have put solaris on it but its not a free download and I didnt feel like laying out the cash. Redhat installed fine but it only would recognise 1 of the drives(it has 9 in a UW raid) So Im happy that it just works but im really pissed I can only use 1 drive. So I look around and find out that the only way to get any redhat to support a raid you have to load a dos driver which really fucking sucks cause I dont remember the last time I ran across dos compiled for sparc. Also it has a built in 10/100 ethernet port on it, which isnt supported under redhat. Ok if your gonna release a specialized sun version of your os it might be a good idea to include support for hardware on that platform. So heres where the fed up part comes in. Gettin help on this is like pulling teeth. NOBODY has any experience with this. And GODDAMN SUNHELP.ORG CLEARS THEIR F00KING GODDAMN FORUMS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. So can anyone help me? Goddamn, Ive gotta go set someone on fire.

use a hammer, or kick it.

i find that even if this doesn't solve the current problem it will make you feel like you have accomplished something which will give you that good tingly feeling in your toes

sucks, man. i just recently got an old sparc 1+ station - royal PAIN IN THE ASS to set up redhat 6.2 on it! finally got it to work on an ancient .5 GB drive that's louder than my stereo. but i digress. t'is a shame (and bizzare) that your ethernet port is not supported. you really need to get your hands on a solaris 5/7/8 cd. try ebay or somethin'. also slackware just released a beta version for sun hardware, so that might be worth a try. go to < www.slackware.com > (believe that is the correct url) and check it out.
good luck
