(spelling corrected)

Isn't that a contradiction? Someone being with the computer would kinda make it attended

the whole reason id be stealing someone elses in the first place, is because I wouldnt steal it. and what i meant by someone with an unattenDed computer, is like if their sleeping next to it, whats to stop you from yankin some of their shit(this was not meant literally)?
Posted by CatKnight on Feb. 21 2001,22:05
they have rentacops and real cops for security. enough so that you can leave your computer ther overnight while u sleep at a hotel. as for me, im just going to be fragging 86 hours staight.
Posted by Sithiee on Feb. 21 2001,22:31

i'd go...
my computer sux0rz too, but im getting better in CS. although i dont think ill be half as good in sniping as i am in Unreal Tournament. pulling off headshots from the hip is a GIFT, damnit.
but it doesnt say what games theyre playing!
it only mentions TFC and CS
what? no Homeworld? or AoE?

Posted by StanVanDam on Feb. 22 2001,15:02

Posted by Sithiee on Feb. 22 2001,21:45
kai: id edit that to what i really meant by that...but i dont know what i meant by it now...

and you can play any game you want, with 1250 gamers, youre bound to find someone with everything...or somethin...

Posted by CatKnight on Feb. 23 2001,05:45

Ok I gotta add an update. Its gonna sux0r. They are using a bunch of 12 port 10/100 HUBS. Suck suckity suck suck suck. I met with the 2 owners of recon trying to help work out a decent infrastructure layout and they didnt want to pay for RENTING a decent backbone switch and dispersion switches. The fuckers were hell bent on using hubs. Good news though is were giving them an 8way 700 xeon simply for the purpose of hosting games. And were gonna sell stuff like mice and keyboards and all the little stuff that breaks or gets lost. Oh and theres gonna be a pIII 1.5 raffle.

So anyway...theyre gonna fuck it all up unless its only like 250 people.

We do need a Det.net clan. Something like [DND] Det Net Destroyers or something.

bleh that sucks about the hubs. i thought they said they were going to put together the fastest lan network ever assembled?

anyway we should all go and play, and get detnet t-shirts too! sithiee, you live nearby, you should sign up.

They lied about the network so im gonna deliberatly break recon laws and bring my subs. Lets see how well the competition can evade my head shots when their monitors dance around their table and thier HD head smashes into the platter.

Can we say M M M M MONSTER KILL!

Also, pertaining to the HUB ISSUE:

quote:
Recon 2000's HUGE LAN gaming event will occur all in one facility, connected to a network with virtually no latency! How will we achieve this? We will use multiple gigabit switches to power the core of of the gaming event. Each gigabit switch will branch off to multiple 10/100mbit switches where you, the gamer, will be directly connected with your own computer. Remember, this event is a "Bring Your Own PC" event, so be sure and check our computer specs page to see what you need to do to prepare for connection.
The switches will be connected to the gigabit core at 100mbit. A maximum of 24 computers will be placed on each 10/100mbit switch to provide maximum throughput, minimal latency and reduce the threat of any bottlenecks. The dedicated servers themselves will be directly connected to the gigabit switches. So, if all of this is not totally geek, er..I mean Greek to you, then you'll easily see what we mean when we say, "virtually no latency!"

The participants on the network will be issued an IP address automatically through our dedicated DHCP server. We strongly encourage all participants to be sure your computer is network ready when you arrive. We will not be able to provide you with hardware, although there will be hardware vendors at the event where you can purchase last minute hardware items. Of course, Recon 2000 technical staff will be available to help configure your computer for actual tournament play, if it isn't already. Have it configured ahead of time, and you'll get to the fragfest that much sooner.

Ok yea that was when we were gonna provide some badass gigabit switches.. then they bitched about the money to rent them so they decided on using some fucking hubs. Now we got intel to sponser it so EVERYTHING there network related is going to be Intel. And were gonna raffle off a P IV. Your gonna see banners that either say XELIX or XRAM EVERY FUCKING WHERE cause thats whose running the show. And thats where I fit in. I get to "help" with the fun. he he he
