I have two up and ready to be networked. Do you really have a need for more than one or two computers? If so, what do you use them for?

I could probably build like 6 or 7 but I only run 3.

Do old commodore PETs and Apples count? If they do I have about 20
PCs I have a 286, P200, and a P3-600
Posted by Istari on Dec. 30 2000,02:06
Computer A: main computer (enough said)
Computer B: file server, music station, CD burner, etc.

Is there really any need for more? As in enough need to research, find, buy, and configure another?

Two works for me...

I have my third desktop up and running. This one is mine, and my dad cannot touch it, he has this authority complex and has to control everything (including the network at my house) so I got parts for my own machine.

My P166 from all 4 years of college running Win2K Server. My PIII 929 that does nothing but internet surfing.

I have priority problems.

As for an mp3 and file server, I would use the P166 for it, but the bios cuts my harddrives off at 8 Gig... and there's mounting space for 2 total. Thinking about getting the cheapest 450 possible, but I'll wait until I get into my new apartment.

Lets see.
Got the sparc, the giant purple cpu of death, the laptop, crappy amd, the old 200 and the "aquired" Dell 700. So that makes 6. Damn, I didnt realize I had so much hardware.

Can you stick the drive in a Win2K box and try from there? I don't think it gives a rat's ass who 'root' is.

don't have access to a win2k box (don't really care to either), but all I want the damn thing to do is chown to spydir (my user)... I've considered just backing up everything, wiping the drive, and copying everything back on to it.... don't really care to take that much time though...

umm... I got this system (linux, on a amd k6-2 366) which is kinna messed up right now (damned fat32 drive has all my mp3's that need to be owned by my user, not root!!) and this celeron 700 system I just got after xmas (hehehe... I fux0r3d my linux box so I "had" to get another system to fix it... yeah right, I'm just a good sales man dad!! buah-hahaha!)... the celeron has nothing on it, but it's supposed to be my windows machine so I can run this cool software I got for xmas... I'm gonna have to pick up a copy of 98SE or something... I also got an old IBM 486 sitting around that won't boot... and an old packard bell downstairs... I kinna-sorta "maintain" my sister and my mom's laptops... so, I personally run 2, "have" 2 others, and maintain 2 others... so take your pick, 2, 4, or 6...

oh yeah, anyone know a good way to get a fat32 drive (that has stuff on it that I *~*~can't~*~* lose) to change the owner/group of everything on it to a user other then root?... I keep getting a "operation not permitted" thing... and yes, I am logged in as root when I try that ... I've tried cp'ing or mv'ing the stuff to another partition on my 20GB drive, but I get some crap about "no such file or directory"... any ideas?

3, but only 2 are in working order...the two are hooked to 5-port switch, waiting for some more to join the family

I own 3.

486 Dx33 - Linux 2.2.18 with a 14 Gb reiserfs
partition for the storage.

AMD K62 500 - This is my linux box, with 2.2.18 kernel. I have a 3dfx in this one and use it for my Linux gaming (www.lokigames.com). Metal Gear runs very very well on this one.

PIII 800 - This is my main Windows machine, and I have to share it with my wife so I can't play with it that much.

2, but one of them turns 20 years old this year.

i have a p200 which has tolerated having some work done to it over the years and now contains a 30 gig hd, cd writer, and 128MB ram.

and my pride and joy. my vintage ti 99/4a, dual processor 16 bit computer. it runs ti basic, and still works. i think i love that one more than the pentium.
