An Airbus A 300 crashed in Queens. Not sure if it was terrorist, but the FAA says that it might not be a terrorist act. I just heard about it and turned on CNN.

some witnessess on cnn say they saw the engine fall off, then there was a small fire, then it went down nose first. there were no radio messages from the plane.
Posted by Der_Teufel on Nov. 11 2001,12:21
Yeah, there are 2 crash sites they said. CNN said that there was a fighter flying recon around the NYC area, but this is just routine. Well, I don't think there were any radio messages from the flights on Sept. 11th.
Posted by kornalldaway on Nov. 11 2001,12:42
they did mention that an engine fell into some guy's boat that was parked in the driveway
Posted by Chrissy on Nov. 11 2001,13:11
Anyone have a clue what part of queens it was in...

/me goes to check CNN.com

It was the Rockway section of Queens I believe, I remember CNN saying that.

personally i believe it was catastrophic engine failure. Just got up from planting myself on sofa watching the n00z. IMO if terrorists were going to strike again with planes, i think they would try to go for something slightly higher profile like the White House or a second attempt at the Pentagon. It is tragic, but i think this is an isolated incident. I also heard that an engine fell off, but i heard it fell into a Ladie's back garden and set fire to the house. The owners wherent home. (I obtained all my stuff from TV and CNN.com) A plane engineer dude said that it was likely an engine failure caused this, cuz the engine was under most strain at the point it ditched, Rotors spinning at a v. high RPM doestend to have a v. damaging effect when it explodes or falls apart. My thoughts....

there's not too much useful information as to the cause of this event. ari fleischer, the white house spokesman, wasn't saying anything other than the fact that the government is formulating ideas and getting clues. for all we know, it could have been some fucked up pigeon that deciding to dive into the engine. or it could have been terroristic, but most likey an unrelated incident. you can fly a plane with less than the normal amount of engines and the pilot could have been trying to save the plane and people, but it all happened within a short amount of time so there might not have been a chance to use the radio.

As it turns out the plane crashed about 5 blocks from my Aunt's house and about 20 from my house. My mom called my apartment this morning (I was in class) but I spoke with my roommate who said she called and told her everything was all right.

The last place in the universe I want to be right now is here in school. I want to go home and watch tv and make sure everyone and everything is okay.

I have to stay in this fucking hellhole until 730 because my roommate cant pick me up until then.

that field in the middle of nowhere north of pittsburgh wasn't exactly a high profile target either. just because it didn't hit any landmarks doesn't mean it wasn't a terrorist action. witnesses say they saw the plane on fire as it was going down. could have been a bomb or sabotage. I think this is too much of a coincidence to not be a terrorist act. Come on, this is almost exactly 2 months after 9/11--11/12. :-\

Starting to grasp at straws on that one CK.

Yes, it's a little odd that there was no radio transmission, but it appears to be a typical engine failure - at least as far as these types go. As mentioned above, during this stage of takeoff, the engines are undergoing high amounts of stress. If one is going to blow, that's the most likely time for such a disaster to occur.

In the case of terrorists, it's doubtful. When the time for retaliation comes, they'll attempt to go a lot bigger than a single plane, and ~250 individuals. Their grief is with the United States and our policies. As such, their attacks will likely be large scale.

It just strikes me as an incredibly perverse coincidence.

The 9-11 attacks were the result of a rather large amount of planning/financial investments. Now, with the terrorists under attack, they're a lot more rushed, plus limited in resources...I'd think they would grasp at any chance to strike back...why wait for anything big and showy?

Who wants to crash a plane in Queens? There's nothing there...well, except those damn hispanics!

Take into consideration that the people who planned the 9/11 attacks were intelligent people. It had been in the planning stages for a long while with pilot training, and aircraft studies. With this in mind, I find it hard to believe they'd be satisfied with a single act of terrorism. In all likelihood, any further attacks have also been in the planning stages during this time.

Events of this scale would not go unnoticed by the United States. While they may not care about the consequences, it would not be irrational to consider that they would take this into account, and alter their plans accordingly.

Do I believe they're rushed, or hard pressed to strike back? No. Even with our actions in Afghanistan, we're honestly little, or no closer to the glorious triumph we all desire than on the day in which war was officially declared.

planes still crash its just god poking fun at our paranoia.

"omg it crashed in new york again?"
"no it crashed in new york STATE!"

seeing as you do own the biggest country it makes sense that a plane crash would happen there rather than anywhere else.

The two dudes I know who live in Queens told me it was 15 blocks from their house, and they were apparently both at work when this all happened.

They didn't realize how close to their house it went down until they went back. Heh, now there's somethin to go home to, huh?

I think it woulda been funnier if they happened to own that boat that got 0wned by the engine.. You go home to clean your little boat and instead, you have a jet engine. Now THAT is Grade A quality humor.

I thought it crashed into a gas station not in a boat...

And btw I take insult to who ever said it was all hispanics that live in queens...thats not true. The area that the plane crashed is mostly white, Irish area...and many of the people who live there are firefighters (some lost their lives two months ago). The community is still grieving over that loss and the loss of the many people who worked in the towers for Cantor Fitzgerald...

One of the two guys I know who lives there is a cop.

He was just getting home from work when the 11 Sept. thing happened, and was called back to work. He is very glad this plane crash did not hit his house.

BTW, It's said that an engine fell off the plane and took out a boat in someone's drive.

On the news they showed the engine at a gas station. The man worked quickly to put out the fire, and he "saved countless lives" according to the news.
