Ok, when I log onto IRC, I get an IP address, obviously, but, I dont get a hostname, which stops me being added to bots in order to get ops...is there anyway to fake a hostname so bots can op me? I dont have access to a shell or anything like that, I am just a regular dial-up user, I have tried contacting my ISP about this and they can't do anything, so, can any of you help me...

Nothing personal, of course... just becoming my duty. < http://www.detonate.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000568.html >

As for IRC questions? I don't even know what ops are, nor do I care. Other people here would know better. Good luck!

your IP/host is decided by the server you connect to. What network do you go on? I'd check that out, see what ircd they're running, and maybe see if you can find an ircop because they know their networks better then I do. I get that sometimes, and I found all I had to do was disconnect and reconnect, sometimes to a different server, but most the time the same server would be fine. As for faking your host, please don't... that's pretty lame, unless you're vhosting inwhich case that can normally be pretty fun

Depending on the client you are using there is probably a setting that tells the client whether to search for your "Local Host" and/or IP address. In mIRC it is under "Local Info".
