A big kiss to the first person who has an answer, 'cause as far as I know you can only loop WAVs (and maybe AIFF / AU).

well I can get it to loop (loop=true) but it isn't very smooth... and it probably depends on what plugin people use, how it'll sound...

Sound on web pages is the second most annoying thing after popup windows. Unless your goal is to drive off visitors, I would rethink your decision to add sound.

Hehe, thanks cr0. I already knew that though... it was going to be an OPTION default OFF just for the fun of it...
And the music at < http://www.dustbrothers.com > will only drive you insane, not drive you off.

My idea would be to use some sort of server-based plugin.....

A good example of a site with an ON/OFF thingy is this:

just looked at it... its using flash..

Its for guitarists

Wait... how do I make an SWF file? Not even CE2000 does that...

It's simple... you just sign up for the Macromedia Extortion Plan, which is second only to Adobe and Microsoft in how much it will cost you. SWF files are made by Macromedia's Shockwave.

Oh, and I agree completely that sound on a website is about the most annoying thing you can do, second only to using an animated gif as the background.

It's a website for my BAND! I think music would be cool as an OPTION! OPTION, I say! Sheeesh...

Anyway, thanks Mikey-man... I guess that's why Macromedia costs so much... it's the only damn thing that works!

Macromedia ain't that spensive! Well... not if you use good old Astalavista.
Shockwave has a help section on looping if I'm not mistaken. I'll get back to you on that one.
