The moment I realized what was going on in the city, only 6 miles from my home, will be ingrained into my mind for the rest of my life. I'm sure it's the same for everyone else... So I started this thread out of the interest of everyone else's experiences and initial reactions.I was in the computer office at school with one of my friends, working on an old computer trying to get it running again. Then my other friend walks in and says something to the effect of "Hey guys, a plane just crashed into the World Trade Center." We were surprised and curious, but figured it was a small plane (like a Cessna) and had no idea it would be such a big deal. Then one of the teachers turns on the radio and we hear "Boeing 767." At that point, we rushed to the library and turned on the TV to see a smoking tower on CNN. People were crying, and no one spoke a word. Posted by Rhydant on Sep. 12 2001,22:02

i was in ap chem class, first period... over the intercom comes this: "we've just recieved word that an airplane has crashed into the world trade center building.. this is a serious situation...we will keep you posted during the day," etc.. this girl in my class asked this kid for his cell and proceeded to call her dad.. it was all silent until he picked up and simply said "your mom is ok." it seemed surreal to me until i got home and actually saw the buildings fall.. then i knew of the gravity of the situation..

7:44am : My mom akes me up and says "You'd better get up!" She was obviously shaken, but I couldn't possibly think of why. Scenarios of family deaths raced through my mind. "The World Trade Buildings have been leveled. They're completely gone. Someone flew two planes into them"I got that ball of fear in the pit of my stomach that I always got when I dreamt of some great world castastrophy or something. The one that slowly went away as you realized everything was okay. But this time I knew it was real, and it wouldn't go away. ------------------ Posted by miNus on Sep. 12 2001,22:15
I was out running errands, I walked into Radio Shack and they had all the TV's on the news. I walked in and stood there, I couldn't believe that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. As I was standing there... BOOM! Another one.It was the scariest moment in my life, it was as if I was there, but yet it was like it was a movie and I was watching it from afar. Still, I can't believe it happened... Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Sep. 12 2001,22:20
i was just waking up at about 3pm (student body clock) logged onto detonate a while later saw the twin towers thread and thought this was some bullshit joke or something turned on tv and it was on every channel------------------ Posted by DeadAnztac on Sep. 12 2001,22:22
Foudn out about 10 minutes after the thrid plane crashed. Between 2 and thrid period my friend stopped me in the hall and said "Hey man, heard the crazy shit that's going on?? The World Trade Center has been hit, the pentagon too, and the Old Office is on fire!" I just sorta laughed because it all sounded very odd. I went into my German class and it was on T.V... my imeadeate reaction was just.. oh shit.. 10 minutes later having realized what happened, and relizing that it was done ON PURPOSE by people I asked to go the hallway to get a drink. I went into the hall way... got a drink.. put my head in the water for a minute or so.. picked myself up.. and punched the nearest well.. I didn't stop.. I kicked it with all my might and starting yelling "DICKLESS FUCKING COWARDS!!!" at the top of my lungs... I think classes inside could hear the thumping more then the screaming down the hallway.. so.. when I went back in I was rather red in the face and the teacher looked at interestingly... um.. then when I started ripping up my arms with my nails in class 30 minutes later my teacher asked if I wanted to go to the counslers office, I said I did, and I went and found my friends and fucking left... yeah.. that's it...------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Sep. 12 2001,22:26

I was sitting in the hall waiting for my Engr class to start, when a Prof came out to get some other Profs and said something about a terrorist attack. Everyone was gathering in a classroom, so I walked down there and found out what was going on. While I was watching the TV the second plane hit the tower. I was in my Engr class watching the news when I heard that the Pentagon was hit by a plane. It still scares me that my dad was stationed at the Pentagon before, and because of this we know many people that work there. He said that when everyone is accounted for that we will know someone who was killed or injured in the Pentagon. I've heard that some of them are ok, but the ones that I don't yet know about scares me.This message has been edited by Der_Teufel on September 13, 2001 at 05:32 PM Posted by CatKnight on Sep. 12 2001,22:34
I was just waking up groggely for my class when I saw the second plane hit live. My roommate had the tv on and I was like "wha tha fuh ih tha??"

quote: Indeed. That's the first thing that crossed my mind when I heard about the incident. I remember my 20th Cent. teacher telling us where he was when he heard about the JFK assasination. My AP Gov't teacher also remembers where he was when the US declared war on Iraq. Posted by Cyrino on Sep. 12 2001,22:54
I was just sitting down in Math class, when the teacher said "I don't know if you guys have heard yet, but a plane has crashed into the World Trade Centre." I just said to my friend, "What kind of fucking idiot would hit the World Trade Centre???" We didn't really hear much more about it until we got out of class and someone said that another plane hit the other tower, and the Pentagon was hit too. I didn't really believe it at first because it was, well, unbelievable. It wasn't until I went to work a few minutes later and it's all that was on the radio. I just thought that "hey, if someone wanted a war, they're doing a pretty fucking good job at starting one!!"I say NUKE 'EM! ------------------ Bluntman & Chronic is the worst comic I ever read. Jay and Silent Bob are stupid characters. A couple of stoners who spout dumb-ass catch-phrases like a third rate 'Cheech and Chong' or 'Bill and Ted'. Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses. www.moviepoopshoot.com Posted by incubus on Sep. 12 2001,23:26

I was in my second period class at school(Marine Biology), cleaning an aquarium, when the teacher turned on the TV, without saying anything. I turned around and watched as the second plane hit. I was completely dumbfounded the rest of the day. I comforted my friends, made sure my EX was OK, basically worried about everyone else. It wasnt till i was home alone at about 11:30 (my dad works for a TV station) that it all finally hit me. I have blood stains on my punching bag. ------------------ quote: Posted by SLATE on Sep. 12 2001,23:44
It was at the end of first period. My principle told all teachers to check there emails immediately before the next period began. My next class was journalism, ironically, and I walked towards my class and saw the teacher by another room. She motioned for everyone to come inside. About 40 people were in a room that seats about 20 all watching about 5-10 minutes before the second plane hit.

first heard of it at around 8:30 when I was getting ready for class. Thought my friend was kidding. Oh my way to class, I stopped to pick up a newspaper at the HUB. There were people gathered around the widescreens watching the news. I was thinking "holy fucking SHIT" ... and just as I was about to leave, the other plane came round the buildings ... people around me were going "no no no... NO!" "Oh my GOD!" ... and when it hit, I don't know how to describe the sound everyone made ... but it was agony. I couldn't concentrate on anything for the rest of the day. I was asleep when my mother phoned me, just before the first tower collapsed. Total brainfuck when I turned on CNN... I had been having a dream in which DC had been levelled by missiles, tanks were all over the place, subs were off the coast... No shit. Still scares me.Every time they played new footage of the tower rammings, I couldn't believe I wasn't watching a movie. Posted by EvilGenius on Sep. 13 2001,02:02
i was waking up around 9 CST by a female companion of mine on the computer no less... seeming as how i leave the AIM sounds running during night... and that's how i found out.. i woke my roommate up by pooring a can of sprite onto him while he slept to show him the tv... he didn't appreciate it very much.. but i thought it was funny...

Just got home from seeing "Get Over It" at the movies. It was probably a bit after 11, We went to visit a chicks house and got there just in time to see the second plane hit the WTC. Was all pretty surreal, didnt really hit me. The chicks were crying and stuff, but it just didnt seem... real.

Got in to work around 9. One of my fellow GA's (she's from Germany) told me that "Two planes ran in to the world trade center and the Pentagon and White House are on fire." At first I thought that she was just messing with me b/c I'm always messing with another of the GA's (who's French). So I sat down and checked my email. Then I walked next door to the meeting room where about 5 people were watching tv. I was just in time to see a replay of the second plane. My stomach knotted and I couldn't believe my eyes. Some of the people were crying and I just stood there feeling numb. I couldn't concentrate on anything all day.Life will never be the same... ------------------ quote: Never argue with and idiot...he may be doing the same thing Posted by StanVanDam on Sep. 13 2001,16:58
Around 10:15AM AST...One of my friends said "Hey Stan did ya hear that some planes hit the World Trade Center? I betcha you planned it." and I was like "Planes hit the WTC? Bullshit." Didn't believe him till I saw it on TV 20 mins later. So in chem class we had the TV on CNN, and a pic of bin Laden came up, and I said "Hey it's Osama bin Laden" and everyone looked at me like I had 2 heads, because where I live, ppl aren't as interested as I am in international affairs. Then we did no work in any classes for the rest of the day because we had the TVs goin but it was fuzzy as hell cuz the skool doesn't have cable, so we watched it through the airwaves, but we could hear everything fine. I arrived to english class where our teacher talked about some 3 planes crashing somewhere in the US, then she trailed off and I stopped listening. Then in civics class I hear my two classmates talking:David: "Ohhh god we are so fucked" Then someone else mentioned it and the whole class was discussing it for like 50 minutes... at the time when they were hit, i was in the woods near my school on a sort of nature hike (biology lab, oddly enough)around when the towers were falling, i managed to slam my elbow into someone's car, which still hurts (and i believe in damaged at the moment. oww) Posted by TheTaxMan on Sep. 13 2001,19:33

Was in DC class working on a relay and some motor starting circuits and the next door teacher came over and was telling we dropped everything.. I dropped a hot soldering iron (man that hurt) and ran to the tv .. we watched it the rest of the day. I was sitting in Cisco class with my headphones on streaming msn .. trying to read but the news was crazy then like 5 minutes into class my teacher, who has a son in Service said come in here. So we go running in .. in time to see the second plane replay and everyone stopped and we sit in the lecture room watching it.. I was at college like 2 hours longer than normal watching it. I was waiting for my Trig class to start at 9:30 when a fellow student who had just driven in broke the news. It wasn't until after Trig when I went and watched TV in the cafeteria that I realized 2 planes hitting the WTC meant a 757 and 767, I thought like maybe a private airplane, not a passenger jet. That was also when I found out about the other 2 planes (neither of which had crashed by the time my class started)I did have a weird experience: on the bus to the campus, at about 8:50 or so (10 minutes to campus, I didn't look at my watch, I noticed that the traffic seemed to just slow way down. I also heard a few brakes squealing, and a horn, which kinda perplexed me, because the streets weren't really crowded, there seemed no reason for the slowdown. I thought nothing of it, until I figured out later that that was probably when the news broke, and everyone heard it on the radio, and stopped paying attention to the road, thus causing the slowdown. Just a thought. When I got home, I turned on the TV rather than doing my homework, so I was up till 2 last night finishing what I could have had done by yesterday afternoon had this not happened. I still can hardly believe it I had just been to NYC less than a month ago, and seen the twin towers so the sheer shock factor is still pretty strong. Posted by TheTaxMan on Sep. 14 2001,05:05
I was sitting in on a history class with a friend of mine at UT-Austin. The Prof. made some really vague remarks about it and just proceeded with the lecture. We scribbled some notes on a paper which were something like "How do -several- planes crash into the WTC?" "terrorism" "you think?" So we went and had lunch overlooking the capitol building in Austin and talked about going to war and such, and if some terrorist got pissed at the President, why he wouldn't crash a plane into the capitol building. We still didn' really know what was going on, so we went to the Student Service Building and saw it on CNN. Didn't really say much after that...------------------ quote: This message has been edited by TheTaxMan on September 14, 2001 at 12:05 PM |
