Today is my birthday. I'm now 17. Woohoo. Anyways, my mom gave me a Startac Cellphone. It's sweet. I'm just wondering if there's any hacks or reprograms or any other cool stuff I can do with it. Thanks.

Hey, do you get ripped off like most of us December kids (mine's Dec. 4)??? I mean, do your parents + other relatives give you "combined" birthday/christmas gifts? I hate that.

starTAC is Motorolas brand of really small folding cellphone.

They got to be quite famous as they used to be the smallest ones around, but other manufacturers have caught up size-wise.

The size of some of these new devices is just insane.

Alan Cox has been experiementing with WAP, and cell phone. Wap is (as I understand it), a way to send messages to phones. He wrote a PHP (web based) engine to send text messages to his cell phone. You can write him (http://www.linux.org.uk), and ask for some info. Happy birthday, only one mre year before you can go to war, smoke, tell you parents to piss off, and best of all - go see the good movies without parental consent.

WAP = Wireless Application Protocol : A way for mobile wireless devices to communicate. Can be used for e-mail, web, etc. WML = the WAP version of HTML. Stripped-down for cellphone displays.

An amusing bit of Brit law:

I love it when people say that kinda stuff.

When I turned 16 people went, ooh, you can smoke now. First of all, as if I want to, second, I tried it out when I was thirteen and thought it was shit.

Then you turn 18 and people go, ooh, you can go drinking now. You say, 'Keep the noise down, I've got a hangover.' They should put the laws above the age they want if they want people to adhere to them. So smoking should be 18, beer 20, sex 12, and so on.
