I build systems for friends and family from time to time. Just recently I got a request for a Thinkpad 380XD and a P2-333/64MB/4GB with 17" monitor. No problem. I put in the order with a company of mine that's been quite good to me.
First off, their web order system was fux0r3d. I couldn't place the order, but they didn't tell me that. I got a call 3 days later asking me to re-order by phone. Bastards.
Next, when it did arrive, they'd managed to ship me a P2-266 system in place of the 17" - this was a joint screwup with UPS, apparently.
Then, when I take the P2-333 out of the box and open it to check that everything's seated - it's got a 3GB drive and 32MB of RAM. I power it on, and poof - it's a 233. Magical.
Finally, when I switch on the Thinkpad - well ... it doesn't switch on. After a six hour charging period, it powers on - and promptly dies within five minutes of CD drive access.
Now, none of this would have been a problem if it weren't for this little issue:
I'm moving. Sunday.
Time to exercise my 7-day refund policy. Fucking wankers.
