Last night your forum whore was posting mercilessly when;

there was a strange sound downstairs... I've lived here 13 years this month and I know *all* the sounds.  So I decide to investigate if I hear it again.

*crunch*

????

I look out front, and see one of the many minivans the Koreans use loading up with some guys and driving off. One of them gives me a dirty look.

It took almost five minutes to realize that the van was the wrong color... and I don't know those teenagers...

So I put the beer down and cruise around to the front to sus it out.

Hmmm.
Everything looks just fine, I'm being paranoid again...
Wait.  The front parking lot gate is missing the chain!  The chain never leaves the gate!  Hey!  The front door is missing the two locks on the gate it has!

The door, however is locked and looks fine.

I call 911.  I wait downstairs for 20 minutes in the cold.
They don't come.

I call again, they come about 40 minutes after the first call.

They're skeptical.  They see no metal bits on the ground from breaking the chain or locks.  They ask if I've been drinking... and then the whole thing revolves around "I shouldn't be on the street, I should go back upstairs and drink water and sleep it off, bla bla"

No Sir, says I, I've been here since forever and there's always a chain, locks, etc.  *always*

They leave.  I look at the gate from my window, and go to sleep, with a pillow over my head and a white-noise generator.

So I didn't hear when the sly thieves open the gate and smash the front door and steal the best sewing machine the Koreans *had*. 11,000$ it was.

The front lot with the doors in the center.

They are pissed!  They don't have insurance!
They're scared the bad guys will return tonight!  And they won't call the cops, it's an Asian thing I've heard of...

I did it with great pleasure!

Here's how Pennsy is different from Cali.

When the cops left, I would've waited up. Next noise, I go downstairs and shoot the thieves.

When the DA asks, I tell him:

1.) I was awakened to strange sounds coming from downstairs in the middle of the night.
2.) I went downstairs to find the gate damaged, locks and chain gone.
3.) The police accused me of being drunk and left, telling me there was no problem (thereby leaving me completely on my own incase the thugs came back.)
4.) The thugs returned and smashed in the door. I heard them again.
5.) Having been denied protection by the police and having thugs try to break in twice in one night, I was in fear for my life.
6.) I shot them so that they could not kill me, which I honestly believed they would do.

Around here that's enough to put me on the front page of the newspaper under the title 'Hero.'

Out there I'd probably go to prison for depriving some fine, upstading citizens of their right to break into homes and steal things.
