It all started innocently enough.  I was 11 and decided to make sure that Dad knew I could still be underhanded, devious, and generally mean... chip off the old block.

We were sitting down to the family meal.  This consisted of turning on the TV and sitting on on of two old couches with a piping hot Pot Pie.  I would have a Coke wedged in between older Coke cans of days past and would shake it before drinking to make sure it still had fizz (I had drank from an old one before, I don't recommend it... it is a fly graveyard).  I would always eat the stuff in the pie and leave the top crust for the dogs (never really liked crust).

After finishing this illustrious meal, I fed the pie crust to the dogs.  But this time they dicided to simply lick the goo off of the crust (apparently they had been fooled into eating the crust before and thought better of it).  So I put the licked clean pie crust plate on the counter to age.

Dad comesm in, not having seen the dogs' cleaning job, and decides that he is still hungry.  He picks up the plate and begins to eat.

I just had to share this triumph, so I whispered it, snickeringly to my sister, who immediatly busted out laughing.

Dad stopped chewing and eyed us suspiciously.  He looked at the plate he held in his hand.  Then looked at the dogs, who were not showing any interest in his food.  Then he said, "You let the dogs lick this, didn't you!?"

We were on the floor, losing all control of our legs in a fit of laughter.  I could tell he wanted to do something horrible to us, but couldn't think of anything legal.

Later that week Dad was making fried chicken (a rarity, I should have been suspicious just based on that).  Dinner went without incedent.

Much later he headed to the refrigerator and asked if anyone wanted a Coke.  Everyone said yes.  He even opened them all.  Again, I should have been suspicious.

He walks into the den and hands out the Cokes.  For some reason, even though the Coke was cold the old habbit kicked in.  I shook the can.  It made no Fizzy sound.  I looked at it, looked at Dad, who now bursted out, "Damn-it!"

He had poured the chicken grease into the Coke can and chilled it in the frig.  I knew that the house would never be a safe place for me again.
