Why do I even try? Every time I go out of my way to help/be nice to someone, they turn around and shit on me? I just don't understand, I mean "I'm doing you a fucking favor!

If you "help" someone, that implies that you are in a superior position and that can be resented.
If you "assist" or "contribute",
people are less likely to resent it.
