ok, i got this playstation2 gameshark thing today. if you dont know what that is, just stop reading.
so i take it out of the box and it comes with 2 discs and this memory card-like thing. its all cool and what not, but it only comes with SOME cheats for SOME games.
so you want more cheats for other games? well you have to buy this port dex-drive thing that hooks up to a USB slot on yer computer. then you have to download cheats and send them through this dex-drive like thing onto the gameshark card. which is lame.
but this is waht really pisses me off:
you have to buy the damn port thing seperatly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is obviously just another example corporate greed, return their shit and wrie a letter telling them you wont stand for their crap. then start a publicity campaign in your area.

i never did much mucking around on the playstation but one hardware cheating device i always liked was the pro action replay. it allowed you to develop your own codes which was great cause you could make all sorts of wierd ass codes that those damn fools at game shark HQ would never think of. unfortunately i do not know if it is still produced (the one i had was for game boy).

The Gameshark has always scared me. I don't know how it works, and I don't want to know. Somehow, putting a code into Gameshark makes Mario jump past the top of the screen? That's not supposed to happen!!!!!

You don't need to cheat with PS2. Most games come with enough cheat stuff built in for development purposes at least. They can be found at all sorts of sites. A google search will unroot them. Besides... do you really need to cheat? It cheapens the experience and lowers the lifetime of that 50 bucks you've spent on a game.

jim is right, dont cheat. and i believe the gameshark is a hex editor, and that it basically edits the RAM to make certain values higher/lower, so it could change mario's jump factor from like 4 to 40. i borrowed my friends once for tenshu, and it was interesting, but it definitly detracted from the gameplay.

I almost made a new topic out of this, but since its in the same vein:

UNLV had a deal with Gateway (moo) computers. I just got my new one, win2k with a scanner. Turns out the scanner software they sent me does not have drivers for W2k! Even better, you cannot download them from the site, you have to PAY บ.00 to have some lousy CD sent to you.

Keep in mind this was one of TWO scanners available with this computer selection. I checked the other one out too, its not compatible. I'm trying to decide if its corporate greed or plain idiocy on the parts of both companies.

!!!!!!! GRRRR.

I used to have a Gameshark when I had a PlayStation (sold it a long time ago so I could get a Voodoo3 when they were new), and you could just type in the codes. Mags like Tips & Tricks had a bunch of 'em in the back. The DexDrive was so you could trade saved games with friends, so like if you got the red bandana in MGS and he had the stealth suit, you could trade 'em.

They must of *REALLY* changed up the way they worked things, because that's totally different from what I remember them as.

because theres no point in playing when you know your gonna win, and theres no challenge along the way. would you find it interesting to watch a football game between a professional team and 20 toddlers? no. why not? because theres no challenge, and you know whos going to win. hell, one professional football player could beat 20 toddlers, with minimal challenge. its a waste of time.
