IT STARTS:

I called the number from a letter I got from BS to see if I was availible for ADSL, which I had been wanting for months. After I talked to 5 operators, I found that I was not availible for it at the time, but I would be soon, but no date.

I talked to my friend Josh and found that he was also interested in ADSL. We called repeatedly for a date of availibility over the next few weeks, calling different DSL companies, 5 different numbers for BS alone, with the answer. December 2000. This answer did not satisfy either of us.

THE DIGGING:

Then one week, the BS vans start rolling into the neighborhood. They installed FiberOptic lines all over the area, digging up people's front yards and tying up traffic a little. For some reason, they did not see the need to put the wires back in the green boxes by the road, and even now wires are sticking out everywhere.

ADSL? OK, NOW YOU'RE JUST MAKING UP WORDS:

Me and Josh called during the period of digging and the BS people at first told us that they didnt know or that we didnt have the right lines, upon hearing that they were installing the lines they said ADSL would be availible when the digging was finished. They finished, and to our surprise, its still not availible. First they said it would be availible in Febuary, then later they told me Febuary 2001.

EMAIL:

So I decided to Email BellSouth, I mailed them my Rant, and they said I had gotten the runaround. They asked for my phone number, and I reluctantly emailed it to them. A few days later i got an email back saying that I was, in fact, availible for ADSL, and to call 1-888-321-ADSL to make an appointment for installation. I called, and they said i wasnt availible still! I emailed them back, asking why the people on the phone say im not availible. They emailed me back with the exact same email they had sent me before, saying I was availible. I called again, and no. I figured the people on the email would be smarter and would be able to help, but I guess not!

CONCLUSION: My theory:

In the heart of the Marietta, GA BS Central, there is a small room. Inside this room, there are 2 large switches. One marked "Telephone" which is switched ON, and one marked "?" switched OFF. They called a someone in to look at it next Febuary.

I got cable, and with downloads of 300-500 KB/s who needs DSL? Besides, it's cheaper to get cable.

BellSouth is really bad when it comes to expansion. They do a good job of plunking down their core, but when it comes to growing, they suck. I've had a BellSouth DCS phone for years and they still don't have service far north to where I travel occasionally. If I get calls while in that area, they have to go to voicemail and I can't even make any calls while there. But still, where it DOES work, it's great.

I have BellSouth FastAccess, and it's a complete piece of shit. It's always disconnecting me, and it goes slow as hell. I'm using it only because there aren't any other DSL services where I live. Once I move, though, I'll probably get MediaOne RaodRunner (cable).

When I get ADSL, im going with Flashcom or Covad or maybe even AOL+ (As I mentioned before, im broke, so I might have to even though AOL sucks too). But i must admit, maybe I should look into Cable, I'm pretty sure its availible here too.

Note: I added some to the origional rant. Read the Email section.

Cable all the way, baby! In the area where I live, DSL is slow compared to cable, yet there are only 5-10 other cable modem subscribers so we get awesome downloads of close to 500KB/s!

A fucked up thing is going on with my frined in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Ameritech is setting up a monopoly with DSL providers. How the installation happens here: Ameritech comes by your house, installs the new line, after that a tech from the DSL comapny comes along checks your line (if its stable, BS, BS ,BS....)after that if everything is ok, you hook up the DSL modem (which is actually a router) to your phone line and to your nic config your computer (DHCP settings, ipconfig stuff) and you can surf the web and other fun things that you might do.

well my friend runs his own website and business, so he need a fast connection, he has cable provided my media-one and it sux for him. when he heard that i got DSL he desided to get it too, he ordered it from covad i think, and he was waiting for ameritech to come by and hook another line to his house. never happpend, covad was putting in requests for appointment to ameritech, they were all canceled, i mean flat out canceled, for two months he has tryed to get ameritech to install the line, but no. after hours of telephone bullshit from ameritech, he found out that the "real" reason for the cancelation of the installation is that they need to install some "special" box outside his house, which involves about 躔 and the rapid digging of his front lawn.

Now thats BS, if you ask me Ameritech wants all of the DSL comming from them >
