I like to donate blood. i find it a very rewarding experience, and i don't mind the pain at all. but what really ANNOYS THE SHIT out of me is when i find out that most blood donations goto elective surgery. i'm like wtf?!?! i am donating blood just so some fat fuck can get liposuction?!?! this does not seem right to me!

i heard on the news a little while ago (australia don't forget) that it is now being reccomended to patients that undergo elective surgery that they donate their OWN blood well in advance of the surgery, so they can then use their own to "refill" themselves when they need it. i personally think this is a great idea and one that should be put into force immediately. i dont want to think that i get half a litre of blood taken out of me just so some paranoid old woman can get a facelift

thank you

my mom had surgery a few years ago (medically necessary, not elective), and before she went in, she got to decide who her donors would be. she's anemic, so she couldn't be one for herself, and she didn't want to have strangers either, so i had to step up to the plate so to speak and bleed in a bag.

it wasn't too bad, and at least i knew who was going to be getting the blood. but anyway, my point was that if you're going to have surgery or someone in your family is, try looking into a directed donor program or directed donation and then you'll know where your blood is going.
