This sort of thing is really beyond me... But I remember once reading that if you have physical access to the machine you can boot to a stripped down version of the linux kernel that fits on a floppy (i think it's called trinux or something like that?) and mount the NT drive. Once you do that, you might be able to get to the SAM hive, which stores the hashed pw's, and copy it. Then I guess you just bust out L0phtCrack and go to town on it... Although, this might be more effort than it's worth and it probably rarely works anyways. But that's the best I can do for now.... good luck.

if you search through old threads there was one about password recovery on a 2000 professional. there is a program that boots to an environment a lot like recovery console and then from there you have an option to create a new admin password. just do that and the old one will be overwritten. that's all you really need. now i am not sure if it works for NT 4 but it's worth a try. if you really can't get any info i will try to find the name of the program and the site.
Edit: Well I remembered the name of the program. It's called ERD Commander and I also found a link to their main site. In the key features they do say that it supports XP, 2000 and NT so good luck.

I have a tool I've used dozens of times. It's on my website here email wiley@cbk.net for the login/password
Look under the local file and linux_password.ima (it's an image fiel so you will have to use winimage to write it to a floppy and boot from it ...Winimage is also somewhere in that file area) The floppy boots Linux reads NTFS and changes the registry. Pretty fucking cool. As a bonus you can charge $5000 for password recoveries to fools who forgot their passwords with that disk.
