symptoms:  windoze locks up occasionaly.  Can still move the mouse around, but everything is frozen.  Usually occurs while typing text into a box (like im doing now or writing emails.)  The text i was typing will be all messed up, as if 2 lines got overlaped.

system specs-
Motherboard: Asus A7V133
CPU: AMD Athalon 1000
RAM: 256MB pc133
Sound card: SBPCI128
Video: Guillemot Maxi Gamer Cougar agp 4x
Other:
Sony CRX140E CDR drive
Western digital Caviar 20 gig HD slave on ATA100
Western digital Caviar 40 gig HD master on ATA100
Realtek chipset based NIC
140W power supply (im guessing this is the problem, but would like a 2nd opinion.)

i would also say the problem is in the power supply.
normally for that kind of configuration people get a 250W psu.
the symptoms look very strange for a lack of power though.

almost the same thing happened to me once.
I was using my laptop, writing an e-mail, but I have two hd's for it, one with Linux, and the other with XP.
so I was using the XP hard-drive to write the e-mail...
I left for quite a while, and when I came back, the screen was off, and I had forgotten what I was doing previously, so I just assumed the laptop was off, and I wanted to switch to the Linux hard-drive, so I just swapped, and when I opened it up, it still had the XP desktop and everything (RAM) and I could move the mouse and everything, and the text was overlapping, and mothing worked...after a while it just blue-screened...
so I was just thinking it may be something with the hard-drive
maybe that would help
maybe not

most likely to be the power supply.

Sir? May I recommend I load myself into the reverse-thrust tubes and you use my body as decoy-fodder? This will, of course leave me splattered across deep space and unable to complete today's laundry, for which I apologise in advance.

thanks for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc opinions guys.

AMD recomends 300-450W psu for an athalon 1gig.... im surprised this box will post with  140W.

Yet another thing to buy when uncle sam gives me my damn money back.

I wouldn't go with just a temporary solution if I were you...
