I'm looking to get a DVD-ROM for my box in the next few weeks. I have read that Pioneer drives are pretty good. Anyone have any recommendations??

There are not to many dvd rom's that just flat out suck so most will work fine with good software. I have a creative dvd rom with decoder card, no problems with it. I use power dvd to watch movies but i use the decoder card to export layer 1 and layer 2 mpg's on an s-vid cord to my tv

Yea, I have and the fucker put some nasty scratches on my cds from the loading mechanism. So like I said. Slots suck unless theyre wet or money comes out or both.

i have a slot-loading dvd drive. after less then 1 year it has become very unreliable. powerdvd frequently crashes, audio cd's take upwards of 10 seconds to change tracks, and it often gets stuck trying to find a sector and freezes my whole puter. im getting a tray loader asaica.
