Yo! Open up Notepad, DOS "edit", etc. and open your system.ini file. There should be a "shell=" line towards the beginning. Either delete this line, or change it so it says "shell=explorer.exe". This should make things work.

SHIT!!! You don't have to reinstall! You neglected to mention you were running Windows NT/2000 - that changes EVERYTHING.Okay, here's what you do: Put the following text in a text file:
code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "Shell"="Explorer.exe"
and save as removels.regNow run the file. Reboot. Things will work. This message has been edited by ASCIIMan on May 01, 2001 at 04:17 PM

i use litestep all the time. its great. it's the only reason i'm still using windows (except i'm not very good with linux, but who is?) you can change everything in it to what you want. and you don't have to format just do what asciiman said, all it did was replace explorer with litestep, just change it back and you'll be back in exploder again
