Finally got my network working (w00p-w00t ta dat, shun!) and I'm looking for some help with SAMBA. Note I only know the basic idea of what SAMBA is (namely it's purpose), and a little help setting up a basic little thing is greatly apreciated.

I assume you've got samba installed... run a ps -a and check if smbd and nmbd are running. If not, start them.

You'll need a config file called /etc/smb.conf . Here's mine. You'll have to tweak it a bit for your machine, but it should be pretty obvious.

workgroup = STARGATE
netbios name = HADRON
interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1

Wow, that's bare minimum in 4D.

heh well, most are more complicated. But just edit the file that might already be there due to an existing installation and go from there. Have fun Sambaing!

I'm guessing that's in C:\SYSTEM\, right?

I'll have be getting into that this weekend, cuz my old monitor blew up! Well, not really blew up, but the power unit surged, and it was sparking and stuff. My dad says we'll have to bring it somewhere to fix it... I'd really prefer a new monitor, but the monitor's probably so messed up (no name brand) that I'll have to...

you may have to edit the lmhosts file on the windows machine. There is nothing telling the windows machine that its there.

The lmhosts (lanman hosts) file will have examples of how it should look.
